Oh boy what a game that was....

Had a really satisfying experience playing league last night. This is a comeback story, and also one of turning a trash-talker's words back against them.

The Context:

So picture this, I'm experimenting with unsealed spellbook and smite in the top lane. The idea is to counterjungle the enemy jungler sometime during the early game. I haven't figured it out quite right yet, and I kept getting put on red team so I don't get to invade the much easier and safer to invade red buff.

The story:

This game I chose Vi (one of my mains for top lane). It goes poorly at lvl 1 and I am forced to take Q and burn my flash to escape the enemy Lux and Jayce. I complain in all chat about them "ruining my fun."

Because I started a jungle item and I got nothing for it, and burned flash AND started Q, I have a really terrible first few levels. Then Jayce starts talking trash in all chat. I'll admit it was a little upsetting, since it wasn't really fair; he didn't beat me himself, more of I defeated myself with my poor execution of the strategy I was attempting to pull off.

But all that aside, I kept up in farm and timed my recalls so I missed as little XP and farm as possible. Unsealed spellbook allowed me to swap smite for teleport and the reduced cooldown helped me to recall and TP back more frequently. So overall, despite getting harassed a lot and killed once, I kept up in farm.

Then something magical happened. Our mid-lane AP Nasus ganked for me 2 or 3 times in like a 5-7 minute span of time. With our jungler's help we managed to take first turret just half a second before our own bot tower fell. And even though we only killed Jayce on the last of those 3 ganks, it got me back into the game because Jayce was forced to recall each time. Jayce made some demeaning comments in all chat about me getting babysat by an off-meta mid laner, and I started to participate in the trash talk. "aww poor baby is sad they got 2v1'd!"

By this point I had caught up, I had large amounts of gold to spend so I finished my first item and got pieces for my next one. I attempted to duel the Jayce and he beat me several times, forcing me to back with low HP each time. He made another comment about how I had been "getting f'd all game." And I responded with, "Sorry I was too busy making plays elsewhere to bother trying to beat you." Which was true, I had roamed and stolen the enemy's jungle several times. I finish my second item. Then I proceeded to 1v1 the Jayce over and over again beating him each time. I cheerfully turned his own words back on him, asking "what was that about getting f'd? Please say it louder!"

He had nothing to say in all-chat for the rest of the game. And hot damn it felt so good to put somebody in their place after they talked trash without earning the right to do so.

Also I finished the game 7 and 1. So yeah, getting stomped by dueling in lane doesn't mean you have to give up. Find ways to time your recalls and take farm where you can get it (such as the enemy jungle when you see the enemy jungler is at dragon or ganking bottom). Even a terrible early game can lead to sweet sweet vengeance. Have patience and don't tilt. It is so damn rewarding when you manage to pull off the comeback!

I just had a pretty good game too! It's not entirely like your game, but I really want to share. https://matchhistory.na.leagueoflegends.com/en/#match-details/NA1/2675548363/227894082?tab=overview

I was Graves top against Teemo. It's a tough matchup, made especially tough by the fact that Lee Sin has excellent jungle pathing. I push Teemo to tower twice, and twice Lee Sin is right there to take me out. Teemo is now strong enough to 1v1 me for my third death, even though he only got the assists. Lee Sin on the other hand is exerting his influence all over the map.

By 18 minutes, he's 14/2/5. The score is 28/10, and they have four turrets. We don't have any turrets, and neither side has a Dragon. Lee Sin has been too busy getting kills to get an Earth Dragon, and we're too behind to even attempt it. Someone had started an early surrender vote, and the only reason it didn't pass was because I instinctively pressed the no button. It ended in a 3/2, but the other no could easily have been from a person who realized their vote didn't matter. When I pressed no, I looked at the scoreboard and thought, "that was a mistake, I think we're going to lose."

Lee Sin dives Katarina and me under tier 2 top turret, and with a fancy flash he kicks me into Katarina and takes 2/3 of our health away in one spell. Annie follows up and removes the last third of my health, and Katarina runs away.

Lee Sin is cocky. He has taunted us in /all chat a bit, and he's fed as heck. He is low hp from a few tower shots he took while trying to dive Katarina, but that doesn't stop him from diving our full-health Vayne that came top to protect the turret. He ward hops over the wall, shoots and lands Q, and he takes her down without any chance for her to fight back (Q, auto, Tiamat E). Now he's really low hp though, and Bard takes him down.

While this is happening, we lose mid inhibitor turret to Zed. It's 30-11 and they have five turrets. It's an 11.3k gold differential, and for some reason, this is the turning point.

I think Lee Sin's death gave our team hope. No one tilted. In fact, barely anyone spoke aside from I. I just kept encouraging the team in spite of my horrendous score, congratulating them on the kills and towers they got. We fought for every inch, slowly decreasing the gold deficit. Bard and Maokai were the MVPs, performing insane feats of support. They locked down enemies, they saved our carries, and our carries slowly brought us back into the game. We grouped, and they didn't. They fought us while they were isolated, like that was all they could do, and so we killed them. Over the course of the next sixteen minutes, the gold differential changed by 14000. There was no defining teamfight that drastically changed the gold deficit, and we never got Baron. We just killed them with our improbable deathball, and clawed our way back into the game.

Vayne noticed that Lee Sin was no longer talking trash.

Then, we have a bad teamfight at Baron. Three of us die. The enemy reestablishes vision control, and in a few minutes they attempt Baron. Vayne is in the area, but she can't steal it. They take Baron Nashor, and in short time they have Elder Dragon too. It's looking bleak again, and it gets even bleaker when they take down two towers and an inhibitor.

We revive and form our deathball again. We fight them while they have Elder Dragon, and we win. After all, they only have one elemental dragon. We run down mid, kill their inhibitor, kill them as they respawn, and go on to destroy the Nexus. It was an impossible victory.
