Poking in after years away: How the HELL did a champion like Pike ever make it past the Balance Team with THAT kit?

His kit is honestly fine. The goal they made with Pyke was to bring the non-traditional support players to playing support. He can't do anything in a duo lane without his partner, so as a support he's very much tied to his partner, unless he manages to get fed. If he goes in and does all his stuff and his ally does nothing, he will just die.

Maybe you should've asked that about Darius or Kha'Zix or Thresh if you're used to old champions and hate the elements of his kit

Like Pyke is actually pretty balancable as a concept but I think like Yasuo a minor rework would emphasize his weaknesses and allow more base strength in his kit. Like I'd probably cut the resets on R personally, you either don't use them or it ends a fight on its own. The execute is whats actually important to his kit and Q/E need low base damage and long cds to justify that thing.

Though honestly considering adc and sup is loaded with good early game options, I never really hate laning vs Pyke that much. Even if his regen factor is crazy he always loses hp from poke and he's easy to burst, he has to give up burst for Aftershock if he wants to not die instantly in melee. He doesn't even displace you as easily as someone like Thresh and if damage is the concern I've been laning against Leona, MF, Brand, Vel'Koz, Draven, ect for years. There is shit I'd rather not face over Pyke.

Probably using the same method bioware used to design and develop anthem, riot magic. Only the magic is failing and flickering out. The night is dark and full of terrors.
