Suprise! Invasive crawdad has three sets of chromosomes and clones itself
Kind of an unusual tale of parthenogenesis, but the marbled crayfish, a relative newcomer to the scene, appears to encompass an entirely female lineage which reproduces asexually.

While typically at a disadvantage in the wild, clones have a unique ability to colonize new environments by themselves. The marbled crayfish weighs in with a hefty genome, and three sets of chromosomes, which may help it colonize new landscapes. Very reminiscent of plants-- granny smith apples, bananas, poplars, etc. I'm very keen to follow this research.
