Been playing MVC:I a little bit. Here are my first impressions.

They're back down to 2 versus 2 matches, like the original MVC. The story mode is about as good as can be expected for one in a fighting game. The use of Infinity Stones as a replacement for X factor/3rd teammate was actually pretty well done, enabling a larger variety of strategies. Each stone's storm mode has its weaknesses and all of their basic uses can be blocked with no chipping (at least I'm pretty certain the damaging ones don't chip in regular matches).

I am very understanding about the lack of X-Men characters in the roster, but it does feel like the characters are, overall, pretty balanced. I am 50/50 on the casualization of the fighting, being able to tap Light Punch for an auto combo. However, the trade off for the auto combo is that it can only chain if the first hit connects and it deals less damage than actually hitting the buttons in sequence. It also makes actual combos harder to pull off because you must go through the auto sequence, however that ends up. Finally, the controls with the D pad seem less reliable than the analog stick, which is a rather large nuisance.

I will say that I'm glad infinite combos were removed (MVC3 issue). In the place of those, each character has a means to knock the opponent off the ground before they get up. This means that, while you still can't combo your opponent to zero, it's something that is a display of skill and cannot be done with most auto combos.

I'm sorry but I just can't see myself buying MVC:I in its current state for 60 dollars, maybe when the price drops.

But I will say this, the gameplay at least looks alright.

Its just that everything else looks so janky compared to UMVC3

I also noticed that Morrigan, despite having the same voice actress from MVC3, sounds a bit off. Like they adjusted how she sounds and it kinda bugs me. I absolutely loved her voice in MVC3 and I'm quite disappointed that she doesn't sound the same.

Although I can't argue that she is very combo happy in MVC:I and feels very fluid.
