Except that Spear's also a buff to a bunch of champions who are already better than Volibear as it is.

Also, it'll probably still feel bad on Voli for the same reason a lot of fighter/juggernaut items tend to. He has no AD ratios in his kit whatsoever, despite being in a class whose champions tend to have their ability damage adjusted via total AD ratios.

It's literally a nerfed version of current essence reaver. It lost 5 AD and the mana on it while still costing the same. Anyone who doesn't buy essence reaver now isn't going to like shojin either.

it won't. it'll be a bigger buff to people like riven reneketon who already build the current version and abuse it.

For point of reference, Volibear with Spear of Shojin can:

Q flip -> E -> R -> auto auto -> Bite -> auto auto -> Q flip -> E -> auto auto -> Bite

within 6 seconds easily, which doesn't cost 400 Mana until E is maxed which is maxed last anyway.

alone pays for 2/3rds of the combo.

I can see it. Reducing his cooldowns will make him sticky as hell and give him a lot of AoE presence in teamfights.
