Seriously, this is by far the least rewarding champion in the entire game. I feel like I'm getting brain damage every time I play him.

You could have easily escaped that gank, yet you decided to go for the 2v1 vs 2 champions that have a disengage, obviously the champion is to blame.
As MystVearn said, you could have easily disengaged but you chose to fight. Not the champions fault.
I know I’m a silver/gold scrub, but have you taken a look at recent build and rune options for Kennen? I know this isn’t Korea, but especially with the addition of Nimbus Cloak, he’s actually been on the rise in Korea, especially in high elo. Not trying to invalidate your statement, js’ing that there may be a thing or two you might have missed with this most recent patch. To clarify, this is about AP mage Kennen, not that AD or on-hit nonsense that feels like an utter insult to the champion.
You had literally 0 damage or defensive runes, 5 more AP, a bit more AD, and a healthbar. You maxed Q and never landed a Q on Syndra. Syndra had Nullifying Orb, Ignite, and Arcane Comet.
This isn't some 'oh no Kennen is super weak' this is you took literally every ms/ult based rune you could and ignored all damage and durability whatsoever. And then you never landed the ability you were maxing. And then you bitched your AoE wombo combo mage you took runes to be a better AoE wombo combo mage on lost to the single target burst mage who took actual damage runes and damage summoner spells and landed an ability on you killed you while her jungler was helping out.
Even if you want to bitch about "I didn't kill Syndra when I used my full kit11!!1" you never landed the ability you were maxing, had no completed items, and only landed the massive AoE parts of your kit that cannot possibly miss while being AoE and thus have lower damage.
