Matchmaking and the Actual Game
Hey guys I just wanted to state some opinions about the game because I see a lot of really negative stuff about the matchmaking and game in genera, but I want to get a voice out there to show another perspective.
Self-intro: I have been playing since early/mid 2017, so I wasn't there during the 'golden-time' of League, but I do know the past couple of years. I have taken breaks from it a couple of times, but I tried to keep up with patch notes, so I could learn everything that changed. I am in Silver, and I do deserve to be there, but I still play the game, and attempt to keep calm and not tilt. Anyways, let's continue with the main discussion.
**Matchmaking **
Many people say that they absolutely hate the match making, and I do think that it is a little weird sometimes, but it really comes down to three main factors:
MMR: The hidden system has confused me since I started playing, but I understand a bit of it and I can tell that it isn't perfect nor will it ever be. It looks for people who are most similar to your MMR, which in cases can be weird, but it still works, and works decently (don't yell at me for that.)
Players: This is where the big hard-hitting thing comes in: the players and community of league. While most of it is very positive most of the time, you will always get those few players who A) Have had a bad past few games or B) Are in the WRONG Skill Level C) People who want to ruin other's days. Now for A, obviously this may have to do with loss streaks, have been feeding past few games, so they might not have the best attitudes so it may be hard to work with and they are probably more likely to tilt. B, has to do with flaws in the MMR system, or placements which are also odd when interacting with MMR. My first placement game I had was with golds (I believe) when my highest rank last season was S2. I lost the game and got placed in B4, I wasn't suprised, I did really bad, and I was a large part of the issue. C) These people are inevitable in ANYTHING in life. There are people who have hatred and just want to put it into others. People criticize games for these types of people, even though it has to with us humans.
With that being said, I feel like people criticize RIOT too much for their players, when a lot of the time, this is out of anyone's control except for the person who is messing up, or accidentally messing up the game. There are ways to fix this --
Attitude: Many players especially when losing tend to give up and blame RIOT for their team and everything, when if you have a positive attitude and just spread it, you can win in a lot of situations when you are down. While you can't 100% win all games, staying positive can help and it has helped me A LOT. I have attempted to stay away from tilting, and I would say I do a decent? job doing so. It just takes practice and seeing the world through other's eyes.
These are just a few opinions of mine for matchmaking, and like I said the matchmaking is NOT PERFECT, but I feel for the amount of people that it has to deal with, and the amount of players it scans through to make the best match at a certain time, it does decently well.
**The Game **
A lot of people say that the game has a meta and if you want to win, YOU NEED TO PLAY THE META.
No. It has a meta, but it doesn't mean it's the only way to win. If you play a champ and learn the hell out of them, you can win. You can win without being a so-called 'meta-slave.' THIS ALSO REQUIRES A GOOD ATTITUDE. And the changes RIOT makes seem to be mainly based around E-Sports, but I also feel like they are trying to please all of their players when they come up for a good way to attempt to balance a champ. They want to balance a champ and make them still playable, for all of the people that enjoy the champ, but also make it so it's not so aggravating to play against. I feel like we as players, don't cut them enough slack when actually saying we want X changed, can be harder to balance then we think. It isn't that RIOT is a bad company, it just has it's issues like everything in the world.
And... I know that whoever reads this, or skips through it, or 100% ignores it will most likely continue to play the game. You stay for the game, but complain about the company, but continue to stay? If you don't like the game, take a break, play some Borderlands 2, or Minecraft, or Enter the Gungeon, and come back to it. Have a good attitude, and try to be the one who helps put your team back on track. Have fun and just keep enjoying the game. Complain to Riot more about what you think should change and put your voice out.
And I, shall be leaving now, I will attempt to reply to all comments, but I'll probably be off playing League or whatever I feel like.
FOR THE NORMAL HUMAN: Keep enjoying your life and try to stay POSITIVE!
FOR ANY RIOTER: Good job on attempting to keep up with the community, and good job on league, if you guys made it last this long, it will be bale to last even longer and become even better. Maybe we will create a new 'golden-age' that everyone will truly enjoy.
Now I am truly out, and have a wonderful evening.
