Riot Is Overly Toxic
I've played League of Legends since before beta. I had 3 smurfs when beta started. I played this game for so long now, and that's because this is the kinda of game that I wanted. I didn't like DOTA because there was no bushes. League of Legends is the game type that I like the most, however it was the greatest disappointment of any game I've ever played.
First it started off with Ticket system, no matter how buggy the game was or problems you had, Riot always had the same answer "We have someone working on it, we find no issue, We found the game was working as intended" Bug after bug, store purchase issue after store purchase issue, client issue after client issue, even drop hacks and map hacks. Riot just didn't care nor did they try, until you find a way to call them out.
Second, and the biggest cause of Toxicity is the "report" button. Not so much that it was a problem, but how they made changed to it was a problem. First major change was that users who never use it, would get more priority, if they actually reported someone finally, you would instantly get a warning, rather than it taking 3 games of report s or 3 people on your team reporting. That doesn't seem so bad, but sometimes people would get reported and receive penalties, when penalties were not due. Even worse was the next major change to "reports" The Tribunal . It seems like a good idea, but Riot didnt hot fix or adjust it, so it was un-managed and left to be used incorrectly sometimes and created more animosity in the community, with people threatening to ban using tribunal. Normally that would be an easy thing to fix, just need a team to actually manage the tribunal not just let it go wild. However the report button got EVEN worse even after the tribunal. Did you ever notice that you will lose streak with teams just just INT or afk? That's probably because if someone reports you, for anything, and it happens enough, you get stuck in a lower honor queue, where matchmaking puts you with 4 other toxic people, against 5 higher honor people! That's what toxic people deserve right? To not play the game at all for 10 games, because your team is actually INTing and actually trolling in those games. It seems like a good idea, however all it takes is "on my way pings" and "missing pings" to get reported and get into this "Toxic queue" So then, stuck in those 10 toxic games, if enough of those people report you each game, you're there to stay for 10 more! Usually that's not common, because multiple people would have to report for the same thing since thier reports counts for less than someone with higher honor, but imagine your internet crashing 1 game, then 2 games later 3 people report you for INTing, when you're Garen vs Teemo top, and jungle never ganked.... On occasion, these can get you to stay longer.
I was hoping that eventually this will be a skill based game, but it never will, even in countries like Korea, where its much less toxic and more competitive, with a company that handle's itself like this, it still breeds toxicity. I wanna say that the game is finally improving, at least it's not as toxic anymore, however the game not being based off of skill, and more so on honor and consistency what you pick (if you pick a champ you've played a lot recently, you get better matchmaking) (if you pick your main role as primary, you get better matchmaking) As much as it sucks, watch the Twitch streams of some of the best, where they are losing games they should be winning, just because they picked a champ on a different account that "hasn't been played yet" I feel like a skill-based game should be a skill based game, instead of being a game with few choices, built to satisfy riot's hard-forced meta.
