Academic survey on player self-presentation (~15 min.) + Lottery (win up to 50$ worth of RP!)
Dear Summoners, first and foremost, we want to thank you once again for your interest and your participation in our study, which is highly appreciated. In the following, we will present the five winners of our lottery and shortly describe our results in a comprehensible fashion. Results: We conducted an online survey using the strategy of Self-Presentation to explain past purchases of (virtual) items in League of Legends. Additionally, we utilized additional constructs (such as “identification”) potentially effecting self-presentation and purchases. Our final sample yielded in 209 participants. Results indicate that the desire to self-present oneself in the context of LoL has a positive impact on purchases. Furthermore, we found empirical evidence that identification with the group, i.e. belonging to the LoL community, plays a unique role predicting self-presentation and purchase behavior. Thus, purchases in LoL seem to be highly driven by social aspects.
