Discord invite hack?

So to begin I apologize if this is the wrong board for this, please point me in the right direction if I messed up.

But I had a scare tonight. I found out that someone got on my account and was able to send messages out to people on my friends list to join a discord group. I told everyone not to click on the link and if they did to change there password(i did this myself) and tried to gather info on this. From what I gathered from one of my friends on my friends list, someone can send out a message like this to tell your friends to go join this discord group. They said that they don't have to have your password or account information from this, but can get it if anyone accepts the invite to the discord group.

I want to know more details about this and how it is done so that I can work on preventing this in the future for myself and others.

Also, just as a quick reminder, never share passwords between different services on the internet, make sure you're using long and unique passphrases, and make sure you have Email Verification on your LoL account.

Hello again! Just wanted to follow up with an update. We've found the person responsible for the message spam, and resolved the situation. As a follow up, if your account or your friend's accounts were found sending these messages, you/your friend should change your/their password.

I would use this as a chance to use a strong passphrase (eg: "SpamCtrl6AtdeadTeemos!"). Remember that a strong passphrase is one that's easy to remember, and hard to guess/crack. Remember not to use common phrases, and passphrase length is the most important element. Always keep your passwords unique to every service. For services that you can, use a password database like Lastpass/Keypass/etc.

My account got hacked yesterday and sent this message. Whats strange is this happened the day after i joined the(?) league discord. needless to say i left the server and changed my password. Maybe it was a scam league discord meant to hack, dunno.

I think people do this to try and get rival servers or owners they don't like in trouble. I've been on leaguefind since day 1 and while it's full of Canadians, I've never seen any shady stuff like this.

It just happened again with my friend as well. I believe someone has found a way to do it again. Same message. Got a notification from my buddy ign: xiaoming777 "Hey man, found this league discord thought you'd like it https://discord.gg/ rus9Y2 . My buddy was in ranked que and didnt even realize he sent it out.

Happened to me yesterday got no idea why. I am not even an active lol player than i found this thread where it was "fixed" a year ago but no one knows how it happens and why

Actually this happened with someone on my friends list too, got a strange message from them so we asked and they had no idea it had been sent.

Yeah this happened to me today as well. A buddy of mine that I play with, and also know IRL, called me telling me he was getting weird messages (exactly like the ones mentioned) and someone was on my account. Pretty annoying, but hopefully doesn't recur after changing all of my passwords.

It was pretty surprising. I don't remember clicking any weird links, I used only official websites, and I'm not naïve when it comes to phishing. Hm, oh well.

I just changed my Status Message instead of avoiding the hassle of messaging friends individually to let them know what happened 😫

It was caused by a discord user who goes to different league servers and exploits users messaging system to advertise servers behind the owner/staffs back.

This happened to me as well. I haven't actually logged in or played for several months, but I noticed that it happened a few days after I logged in to do world's pick ems... and was sent oct 10th to a bunch on my friends list. Nothing on my account was altered though outside of that.

Hey there! Im no NA player, but something simular happened in here, too. Some friend of mine just sent me some weird messages like you described, i didnt clicked the link. At first he just sent some discord invite link, some days later he sent another link with some advice. I was so confused so I searched for it in www and found you guys.

Yup. LeagueFind was not associated with this message hack exploit. This has been an issue that happened with other servers as well coming from the same person. They can't use your accounts but only send messages to your friend list. I've seen similar thing before, with random accounts adding me and advertising scam links or boosting sites!

It just happend to me wake up and i send spam to everyone on my friends list, change my password right away but can you think about some token for safe login in it will secure acc even better and downloading it on phone or buying it IRL.

Happened to me today as well, my account spammed everybody on my friendlist. Please do something about this, it's clearly not just people giving in to "free rp " sites, as i never click on any link that's suspicous.

This happened to me 3 days ago, got "Hey check out this league discord i think you'll like it https://discord.gg/******" sent to everyone on friends list. My roommate was confused because I was out of town that day.

Had this happen to me on friday as well... all of my friends received a invite to the discord named "the sewer reborn" I have since changed my log in info. It is very worrisome.

Yea I got a bunch of spam messages from my friends on oct 9th and I haven't logged in for a while. I don't use a weak password and a bunch of weird long string number accounts were added to my friend list. Also the guy who did it gifted heroes to himself with my riot points. Can that account get banned or something?

Why would someone even hack a discord account? Not like it carries any serious personal information.
