I'm an Irish guy, and you put gravy on it, not butter. That's like putting Pineapple on Pizza kinda tier disturbing.

Butter is what you use if there's no gravy and also everyone at the table is drunk so you can't force them to go to the store and get the proper mashed potato topping
I add corn, popcorn chicken, gravy, and shredded cheese.
The best is beef gravy with a can of coke added at the same time as the flour. If any of you cook, you should give it a try some time.

Also if they're cheesy mashed potatoes gravy is a no go.
Personally chicken gravy and gravy with pork roast are my favorites.
