according to my math teacher in 2 years ago, that doesn't matter just accept that it works and don't break your head over how or why.

It's not as though the temperatures themselves are different. People's standards of measurement are. 20 degrees Celsius will feel exactly the same whether it's called Celsius, Fahrenheit, Kelvin, or Schmiggledorf.
It's basically the same principle as simple addition and subtraction: turning one number into another. The hard part is figuring out how to get from A to B, but since we've already figured out the formula (through trial and error mostly), we can program calculators to do the job for us.
