Are there any other countries out there where "How far away is x?" is answered in time?

I can't think of any reason why I would want to know the distance X is away from me when I'm traveling there. I clearly just want to know how long it'll take me, and I am so happy that the other people around me think the same, but I have friends in America that always give me a straight-up distance, like "Oh it's y miles" and I'm like "That doesn't help me a single bit."

I live in the USA and usually people answer that in time when I ask. I know I do when others ask me.

Then use the proper question and say "how long will it take me to get there?"

Don't tell people they gave you the wrong answer when you're not communicating what you want from them.
