What are Your Favorite Tips for Avoiding Tilt?

This is embarrassing to admit.

If I die in lane or make a big mistake that can snowball, I just sorta... give up inside without really knowing it. Losing my chance to carry and now having to play from behind for the next twenty minutes is so frustrating and disappointing that I get overwhelmed. I start forcing plays, stop warding, and, before I know it, am 0/4 and realize too late, “Oh no, now I’m tilted, the enemy is fed, and I have just lost my team the game.”

I beat myself up in chat and, thank goodness for gold players, they actually try to cheer me up. I put surrender vote up and, in a separate issue, just vote yes whenever I see one because I figure that the game is lost once anyone tilts.

I want to solve this behavior. It’s unhealthy, losing me games, and will eventually lead to a ban for giving up and feeding. If anyone wants to share how I could catch this problem early, correct my play in-game, and try to come back, I would love to hear it. Share your favorite ways to avoid tilt below! :)

I'm going to list several things that work for various people regarding dealing with tilt. It might look long winded but it really might be worth honestly reading and considering.

First off, being real with yourself and admitting that you are getting tilted is not something to be embarrassed about. Many, many players get tilted (some easier than others) from time to time and being honest with yourself and realizing that it is happening is a very good thing.

* Personally I've played long enough to know that anything can technically happen in a League game.. especially "one good team-fight can turn around the game". It isn't a catch all solution but for a lot of games if you can get your team in a position to win a team-fight you'll be much closer to being caught up with the enemy team.

If I have a really rough game I'll take a few minute break from that queue and do some of these:
1. Try doing an ARAM if you just had a sucky ranked game! Or try playing some draft or blind.
2. Try playing with friends (be sure these are **non toxic friends**!). Duo-queue or even doing a 5 person premade can be a good way to just have a good time.
3. Try turning on some **music** ![Sona](https://ddragon.leagueoflegends.com/cdn/16.11.1/img/champion/Sona.png). Maybe some metal or something can help you pump yourself up and get your anger out. Or perhaps you'd rather listen to some Animal Crossing music and soothe yourself after a long hard game.
4. Take a short break from the game! Take a walk (even around your room), grab a snack, use the restroom, stretch out, love on a dog, play an entirely different game for a little bit even. If you're playing before bed you could try and just sleep, possibly after doing #1 so that you end on a better note.
5. Analyze your game. Sometimes it makes me feel better to see what I did well and what I could've done better. **Acknowledging both HELPS!** Sometimes some things aren't your fault, and you can take some pride in that if you wish as well. We're all improving at this game, so your teammate that got faced against Draven and fed really hard might've been put against one of the matchups they understand the worst.
6. Watch some pro play. I find it really satisfying to watch well oiled teams work together and pro play is a fantastic place to do that. The announcers also speak some nice general advice sometimes. Sometimes I'll leave a pro play game running quietly in the background while I play the game.

I hope some of these might help you, and if they don't do not fear! These tips aren't all for everyone. There will be some lost games and some of them will be your fault and some of them will be completely beyond your control. Play for the good times and try to use various methods to mitigate the less fun moments that we all face.

One thing that helps me, no matter how good or bad I do, i do not blame or hate on my teammates. If they say ANYTHING negative to me I don't even respond. I mute and continue like it never happened.

I use to spam alot of ranked games for the grind even when i wasnt having fun. I found this would give me huge numbers of games played but with bad winrates, and slower climbing. Now i only que ranked when i rly feel like try harding is what i wanna do, play only 2-3 games regardless of how they go, then play in a smurf or do norms if i still wanna play for fun. If youre like me and other peoples stupidity gets under ur skin, playing very few games in one sitting is a good solution.

Hm for me when I get down I listen to some music, either on my computer or phone. If a teammate starts being aggressive and angry/raging I mute them and continue playing.

When I die I tend to keep a doodling pad near my computer so I doodle on it to vent a little. If I want to say something bad I just write it on my doodle pad.

Worst comes to worst and I get really down I take a moment between games to watch cute animal videos or meme/funny video compilations.

When you tryhard and fail, you tilt

Increasing the effort you put into the game has diminishing returns on the result of the game. Your effort is 80% and you add 10%, the result of the game isn't changing. Your disappointment when you lose only increases. No normal person puts 100% into every game, because it's not worth getting that invested in the game

You'll see other players really try their best and you get a gank, they die, their wall has holes in it for that extra 5 cs they have

But ye, don't tryhard, become a 4fun player today!

I like to listen to music in Spotify and think along with the lyrics if I feel I’m becoming tilted, takes my mind off the mistake I’ve made 🙂

Kinda depends, if it was me doing a mistake i try to figure what i could have done differently to avoid it.

But its also important to know what you expect for a lane and your matchup ,like recently i was playing cho toplane teleport+flash into a Darius with flash+exhaust.

I went in expecting him to mostly wreck me 1v1 due to his exhaust and being Darius, so i wasnt even slightly surprised when he goes all in at lvl 2 and burns my flash with his exhaust, but because i had avoided pushing or going too forward i could escape safely.

Then i calmly go back to lane and realizing that he is still aggressive i stick around for some EXP to catchup to his lvl 3, then i bait a fight in my minions and win it because ...well winning 1v1 from full health in the middle of enemy minions isnt really something most can do early.

You should go in knowing what you expect, knowing how it would play out and try to figure what you can do to make it go as well as possible, those are about it.

As long as you play well consistently things will eventually be pretty good, at least in my experience......not in every game but mostly.

realizing games are gonna be won and lost and treating the surrender vote like it doesnt exist

Zero Shingetsu4/14/2019, 12:01:28 AM1 votes

I try to maintain jovial banter. Pretend it's part of the plan. To lure them into a false sense of security. Then the banter becomes more amusing than the game, and sometimes I end up tilting THEM just because I type well. I don't even say anything questionably mean, I just use punctuation and you'd be shocked how many people flip tables over that.

The thing that's helped me the most, though, is to set up an art project in which deaths (or enemy kills, as the case may be) equate to a positive. That way if I win, I win. If I lose, I still win, just in a different way. Something to consider.

Do 10 pushups for every death. Guaranteed you won't tilt for deaths anymore. The exercise helps release happy chemicals in your brain, it'll counteract the shitty tilt and keep you fit!
