How does LP actually work.

I am actually now confused. I thought it was based on your MMR, so if your consistently winning, you should cap off at somewhere around 25 lp per game. That is my experience.

So, I get to Gold 1, play one game. get 25 lp. Which I'm like "Okay, cool, I'm in a good spot." Focus on school for 3 days. Come back, play eight games. Win 3 in a row. Get 19, 24, 19, then lose one, win next, get 25.

So I'm legitimatly confused on how lp is suppose to work cause there is no logic I can see there. Even the games were loaded on the other side. Two games were full plat teams and mine had two, rest gold. So its not like a major rank difference.

(Also half my loses due to people raging/afking is rather depressing but kinda expected.

I figured when I went in, "I win three in a row, promotionals." Well, I win three, don't get 25, so I think "Okay, so probably cause my MMR isn't quite high enough. Then lose one, win another and get 25 which makes absolutely no sense to me.

HALP does not compute

LP gains and losses are dependent on:

  1. Your MMR compared to the target MMR ranges that Riots sets for each division. If your MMR is lower than it "should" be for the division your'e in, your MMR gains are reduced and your MMR losses are increased. And the opposite if your MMR is higher than it "should" be. This tends to force you towards the division you "should" be in for your current MMR.

  2. The exact MMR of each team -- that is, whether you were a favorite or underdog in the match. If your team had the higher MMR you'll gain less LP for wins and lose more LP for losses. If your team had the lower MMR it'll be the opposite.

Because you never really know the exact MMR of either yourself or any of the teams you are on/against, it's hard to separate out these factors in individual games.
