Picking a mage or marksman as top
Simply awful choice, I don't know where this meme originates from but it's just awful.
I see this happen in bronze league at least 1 out of 3 games.

You guys are forgetting the best AP marksman who is used mostly in top. Teemo. I know some people build AS bruiser on him, but I love having 700+ ap on Teemo.
LoL the simple irony here is that if you say you can't take mages top, mages historically have been terrible and the jungle, and because of the current state of assassins mages don't even fit into mid lane. The only place in an average game for a mage is the fucking support. It's fucking retarded.
That said, mages can be a solid top choice, depending on the enemy champion 
are solid choices in a large list of match ups top lane. Mid is generally a coin toss, or a stomp against you.
I've Always thought the same. ADC/Mages top lane sucks sooo badly. which begs the question, why not just bring a top laner mid or bot- OHHHH THATS THE TANK META!

Anyone who goes a Mage top lane that isn't meta is usually a one trick. I played Ahri top for around 40% of my Ahri games this season (380) and I got fed plenty of times. As long as they do well and don't feed I think it's fine. Btw anything is viable in low bronze.

went tank ezreal top to mess around but ended up being super fed
Well if it is swain or vlad that is fine, Vayne used to get quite a bit of attention top and Graves is a fine pick there. A few other mages can easily top just as well as mid but I can't be bothered to pull up the champ list and go through it.
