Riot, please consider removing electrocute from the game

Here's a quote from the recent Dev Corner post by RiotScruffy > We’re looking for the best ways to make some small improvements in an upcoming patch and do a comprehensive pass this preseason without overly stifling the action or opportunity for kills. > * Specifically we agree there’s too much burst coming from systemic sources and many of these effects can stack. It’s not uncommon to see Scorch, Electrocute, Duskblade, and Stormrazor used together in a way that breaks our historical rules for how much reliable burst we allow without giving opponents much chance to respond.

I want to address the bolded part specifically. I feel like Riot should consider outright removing Electrocute from the game. The reason for this is simple, it completely stifles out the action.

  • Why do I think this? : It's simple. The damage is far too reliable, no matter how hard you nerf its effect that statement will be true.
  • Why is that a problem? : With electrocute there is only two viable ways to counter getting hit by that kind reliable damage in lane.
  1. Sacrifice an ally to the enemy's electrocute proc so that it's on cooldown when you want to fight.
  2. Completely avoid your lane opponent

That is what electrocute has reduced this game too. Completely avoid your opponent, or get chunked by electrocute is the most viable strategy now. Systemically this causes a ton of problems in a game where Riot strives to increase interactivity between opponents.

  • Why would I fight somebody and get chunked down right now if I'm not way ahead of them? The answer is simple: You wouldn't. If you were a high level player, you would try using superior vision control (duskblade, also too reliable) so that you can sneak up on an opponent and blow them up before they can react.
  • Why would I go out into an unwarded territory if I risk running into somebody with electrocute? Again, the answer is simple: You wouldn't. You wouldn't risk giving an unnecessary kill, and all the advantage that comes with it, to an enemy

League right now is all about who throws the first punch. That first punch thrown is basically the entire deciding factor in a fight: you get duskblade/stormrazor first and you will get electrocute off first. Skill expression, true skill expression, has been annihilated from the game right now. While I feel like Riot's heart is mostly in the right place, I don't feel like I really have seen any of that until just now when all the most powerful runes are finally getting addressed on PBE.

I really think Riot should consider making some of the heavier changes very soon. I don't have access to the player metrics they do to really see what's happening to League's player growth or decline so I can't definitively say that the state of the game is causing Riot to lose players; but I have my friend's list of people who have slowly trickled off until they never came back. I have my own experience where after most games I play I just get frustrated and wonder why I even put time into this game anymore.

I want to love this game, I really do, but I just have reached my breaking point where I regret ever picking it up in the first place.

Deal more damage for dealing damage is a horrible rune concept that has ultimtely wrought nothing but balance problems however now that T-Lords Decree/Electro has been in the game for so long the community has either developed a dependence on it or grown accustomed to it like Stockholm Syndrome.

Highly doubt most electro users would be willing to let electrocute go now as they view it as "core" to how their champion functions appropriately and can no longer remember a league where it was NOT a part of every kill or trade .

In other words

"You CANT remove electrocute! if I dont have it my champ will be unplayable!"- Zed Casual idort#21456 who does not remember the other 5 seasons where it didn't exist and doesn't understand that its removal means Riot would obviously compensate its primary users with number adjustments.

Argubly, T-Lords was better, considering that its base damage and scaling was much lower.

I think Electrocute just needs some number adjustments and nerfs to make it fair to play against.

If you think about it, it's not much different from having more AD or AP because you have to land abilities to get the proc. Champs that have all skillshots are perfectly fair with Electrocute, but champs who can proc it extremely reliably become oppressive, like they would be if they had a bunch of bonus AD or AP. So I don't think it's fundamentally a problem by itself. Champions that already have reliable burst get even more reliable burst, that is the problem. Ultimately those champions are problems with or without Electrocute, they are just more of a problem with it.

With that said I totally agree that it should be removed because it's really boring. I kinda wish all keystones were utility focused. It would make the game much more interesting. If you want damage, buy some stats. lol

Get good and dont get hit by 3 abilities in rapid succession. That simple and the damage isnt that crazy from it anyway. I do however understand like some champions take no skill to proc it with targetted abilities and stuff but by making the fights slower electrocute users will lose. And I'd assume a little positioning could make u not be such an open target for electrocute users also bone plating is a soft counter

Electrocute wouldn't be so bad if it were balanced against something equally useful in terms of defense. Nothing really exists that is as useful as often.

I'm one of the few assassin players that don't mind electrocute removal since I jg with dark harvest. Would hit lane assassins and divers pretty hard though.
