Skill shot vs Click skills

I've noticed that champions in league have these two ability types. A 'skill shot' where something has to be physically aimed or placed on the ground to hit or catch an enemy champion, or a 'click skill' where someone just has to click the enemy champion in order to activate the skill. I'd like to argue that champions, such as Kat, should have some form of skill shot into their kit. My reasoning for this is because, I feel that without anything to aim and throw the game begins to flatten out in the combat area. Therefore, I'm curious as to what everyone else's opinion on this is.

Personally I think the game is fairly well balanced around the different targeting types. In general, the targeted/aoe skills are less powerful, because they're less difficult to hit. Let's compare GP (targeted) and Ez (skillshot) q's. Both are fairly spamable, apply on hits, and function essentially as an extra aa. However, ez had much longer range, and better scaling, making it more powerful in exchange for the reliability. Now, a big difference between champs with targeted vs skillshot abilities is positioning, and champions with targeted skills have more freedom of motion, as they don't have to worry about aiming, but can instead focus on their actual location. In the case of Kat, she has to focus on positioning herself to hit the aoe combos, almost as if she were the projectile. (I think, I don't play Kat) Other champs can put more effort into juking (or absorbing) enemy skills, generally at the cost of their own effective range. There's my 3am two cents, thanks for the interesting discussion topic.
