How does the matchmaking in promotion games actually work?

So, I just lost my promotions to S1, not like it matters since Ill get them another day, but I just feel like there is a large influx of people who try too hard for success just because of promotion games, lose their cool and flame like its Vietnam.

For example, I let jungle (my "main" role) go even though I was first pick, because they guy said the game is very important to him. Guess so, couldnt be bothered less. At the start of the game, he/she instantly wrote "please dont feed or flame", which seemed hopeful for at least a bit.

Then our duo (who were premade) explained that one of them is first time ranked And this is where I had to ask myself, how? (I mean, shouldnt I play with silver 1 and gold 5 players, since its promotion games? Thats how it was for me untill now anyway.)

After I got first blood, and the second kill, everyone started flooding the chat with gj messages, which is pretty rare, seeing as most of the time Im the only one congratulating for team feats.

However, after bot lane died the first time, second time, third, fifth, the flaming came, to my incredible surprise, from our jungler who was against this way of thinking in the first place.

Anyway, we surrendered at minute 20 (I know, I know, not really the best idea as comebacks are a thing) but I was just in a state of absolute disappointment, so I just gave up. Not like it serves my point, but its there ;D

So the question persists, how are people in promotions actually picked out? Because it seems absurd that I can still get matched with first placement match people in my silver 1 promos.

Sorry for the long post- if you read it all get yourself a cookie, you deserve it. Also, sorry if its on the wrong board, first forum post :) Peace.

Everyone has an mmr before ranked, and I assume they don't have a seperate mmr for normals and ranked, so their mmr could be S1/G5 from playing normals. Everything in the system is based off of the hidden mmr of players

elo's like bronze 1 silver 5 ect dont exist the mmr difference between gold 5 and silver 1 is 15. 1 fucking 5. the only reason they have those is so little timmy can feel some accomplishment by saying "atleast im gold" . literally the only reason promos exist

Trust me. Rito does not care. I'm currently witnessing someone in their placements playing against a team consisting of a Gold, Plat, Silver, and Bronze I while his team consists of all mostly* bronzies.

It's possible that the unranked premade was with a higher player such as G1 or something, not to mention in his placements. Could have evened out the mmr at s1. I definitely feel like my promos get harder as far as skill level of my team vs the enemy, but who really knows.

In the end, your promos are really win 4 out of 6 for division 1s and 3 out of 4 for the rest, requiring you to make the first game a win. There's a lot more luck in league then people think, the mmr ratings and match making can never be perfect.
