Was Duskblade nerfed?
I for one am not in favor of duskblade I think its a problematic item as the amount of utility it offers is nearly unmatched which it seems to pay no penalty to gain. When the best offensive option for most ad assassins is also the best utility and vision control item you have a problematic item. From that perspective I was happy that I was nerfed or seemed to be. What I'm curious about is why it was also given a buff to its lethality that seemed very suspect. I knew that there would be a crossover point where the added Lethality would trump the loss of proc damage so the "quick" excel project began.
These are the findings the break points given the targets level and armor that you need to to to actually benefit from the change. The calculation is as follows.
X=( (2.778O){100/[100+(A-{(L*.4)+[(L*.6)T]/18}]} ) / ( {100/[100+(A-{(L.4)+[(L*.6)*T]/18}]} - (100/(100+A)) )
Where X is our variable on the break point, O is our level, A is the targets armor, L is the lethality (in this case 3), and T is the targets level. For simply's sake we assume user and target are of the same level. As we can see depending on the situation the item actually has been buffed. Any skim in the mid game for instance where you can do in the area of 1600-2300 damage in a team fight or skrim you actually benefit more from the item than you lost in the proc. Its utility is intact, the proc slow is intact, and the item didnt even suffer that much in damage outside of a single action trade. In all this is not the kind of nerf I wanted to see I think that a utility assassin item shouldnt also be the best offensively. Split the item into 2 and reduce the gold efficiency on the utility component if you need to.
The ability to knock out wards and control vision when the winning team has 2 duskblades is extremely hard to play against and hard to replicate without duskblade with the removal of Oracles. I dont think having AD assassins should lead to vision advantages at least without some cost because the champions which can best exploit duskbade are the very champions who can snowball vision advantags hardest. The most painful thing as a support is to watch a Kha and a Zed running around your jungle 1 shotting wards knowing that if you go to replace and you dont have team backup you could very likely easily get picked off and still have no vision.
Dusk needs a stronger nerf than a potential side grade.
