[Discussion] Is Dr.Mundo underpowered?
Mundo has been sitting at ~46-47% Win rate for the longest time, he was OP for a while in preseason when he first got his E auto reset which raised his win rate all the way up to 54%+ . Then after a couple rounds of nerfs he is back at the "shitty" tier again and no one plays him anymore.
Personally as someone who have played ~200 games with him, i feel like he needs some small buffs. 47% is not a terrible win rate for a champion who's hard to master, but it's pretty bad for Mundo, since he's very simple to play.
I feel like the problem that he's facing right now is that he simply doesn't apply pressure to the enemy team. During the early stages of laning phase he is about as weak as Nasus unless you don't hide behind minions and give him free harass with his Q. A Mundo almost NEVER gains lane dominance, more often than not you'll see a Mundo just farming with his cleavers, and getting the waves shoved up his turret. Even Nasus can sometimes gain lane dominance past ~150 stacks in certain matchups, but as Mundo you almost always have to just farm with your cleavers until you get 2-3 items.
He doesn't have a lot of mobility outside of his Ultimate, and he doesn't have any sort of hard CC. This makes him somewhat vulnerable to ganks until ~15 mins when he is tanky enough to escape them. Then coming into mid game and late game he acts as a follow-up tank who also have a long-range peel and somewhat okay picking potential.
Here are some of his major problems from the top of my head:
- His laning phase is very weak and he does not have kill pressure or lane dominance
- He can be ganked quite easily early game
- As a tank he does not provide any sort of hard CC
- He have very limited mobility and cannot initiate a fight
- His regen is easily countered by ignite, executioner's calling, and morello
The reason that he is so unpopular and somewhat underpowered right now IMO is that he simply doesn't do his job very well compared to other tanks. He doesn't provide CC and he doesn't have a lot of damage ( unless you let him stick onto you for 15 seconds), and his early game is bad. He doesn't have lane pressure early game and he is rarely a threat mid to late game, people just ignore you a lot of the times in teamfights since you don't have any sort of burst damage or hard CC, this means that the enemy team can just wipe out your whole team before you can do anything.
On the other hand Nasus for example does his job a lot better than Mundo IMO, he have kill pressure in lane, he is stronger than Mundo late game, he have a very strong slow that also reduces attack speed (thus providing utility to the team), and he does a lot more damage than Mundo. He applies PRESSURE to the enemy team, whenever a Nasus is getting free farm people freak out, and when he gets fed he can one shot carries, he is a threat in lane and he is also a threat in teamfights, both of those are lacking for Mundo.
Now, i don't want another preseason buff for Mundo that makes his damage and dueling potential absolutely INSANE. Instead how about some utility buffs? Like reducing the target's Attack Speed whenever you hit them with your Q, or make some sort of "do it 3 times" thing. For example whenever you hit someone with your cleaver it applies a stack on them, at 3 stacks the enemy gets rooted for 1 second or you gain some movement speed etc.
TL:DR I think Mundo is underpowered right now and i would like to see some buffs for him in the utility department.
