Match Making System in Ranked??

I'm gold 4, I duo with a plat 2 on a daily basis, and I just played a solo que, got a person who was unranked and had a 17% win ratio overall, how is this possible? Unsure of how I was placed with an unranked awful player, who cost me a match, I was support, she was Top, and she Fed a Mundo. Thanks
