How Ranked Works
Hello
Cumulatively I have played over 6000 ranked games. I will explain to everyone how Ranked works.
MMR
Most of the time red side has higher average MMR to compensate for the inherent disadvantage.
MMR decides how much LP you gain/lose per game. If your MMR is higher than the average, you will gain more and lose less LP. If it is below average, you will gain less and lose more LP.
MMR loss is doubled if you are at 0 lp.
Dodging Your dodge timer resets 24 hours after your latest dodge.
Dodging for the first time of a day will give you -3 LP and a 5 min wait queue, you do not lose MMR for dodging.
Every dodge after the first is -10 LP and a 30 min wait queue.
LP Gains LP gains are affected by MMR.
LP gains are higher on blue side compared to red side (because of MMR difference of 2 teams)
LP Losses
LP losses are affected by MMR
LP gains are lower on blue side compared to red side (because of MMR difference of 2 teams)
Promotion If you are division 5 - division 2 of a tier and you reach 100 LP, you need to win 2 out of 3 games in order to promote.
If you are division 1 of a tier and reach 100 LP, you need to win 3 out of 5 games in order to promote to the next tier.
Skipping Division
In order to skip a division, your MMR needs to be MUCH higher than average. A rule of thumb is if you are gaining ~27 LP / game you have a high likeliness of skipping a division
Training Wheels
From Bronze 5 to Gold 1, if you reach promos and fail them, you will receive a free win in your next series.
Demotion
If you just got promoted to a new division, you must lose 3-5 games in a row at 0 LP to get demoted.
If you won 2+ games in a row and then lose all the way to 0 LP and lose 1 game at 0 LP, you will get demoted
If you are division 5 of any tier, in order to get demoted you must lose enough games to make your MMR division 5 of the lower tier. Ex. If you are D5, you must have P5 MMR to demote to P1
