Why there isn't a in-game voice chat yet?

I mean, it's mid 2015 and we're still using verbal communication on a team-based game? lol

Short answer: People are assholes.

Long answer: People are assholes, especially when they have the liberty of spewing out anything at any given second, rather than having to type it out. Riot's data has shown that voice communication is more detrimental to the game than it is helpful. On top of that, some people (like me) just don't want voice chat because we'd rather focus on the game rather than chatty teammates, but that also creates the issue of ignoring potentially important communication (yes, muting does the same thing).

Voice chat is only really good for pre-arranged teams, which could already use Curse/Skype. For Solo queue it would give an unfair advantage to those who had a mic. Plus, if it anything like Smite, everyone will just team up and start insulting the one guy without a mic.

We don't need one... and it would be stupid.

Just going to chime in with my opinion because this thread seems very one-sided.

I strongly believe that voice chat should be in the game, however, with an optional opt-in and opt-out button.

Look at any strategic team-based game out there. The majority have voice chat because it offers an advantage of not having to type everything you want to say and in Riot's case, I think it's pretty underwhelming for the game to be out this long and not offer in-game voice chat and instead, having their playerbase seek third party software to communicate vocally in the game.

They even promote the use of voice chat with the LCS and the players communicating via mics and headsets, but then not offer it in-game.

Just imagine how those LCS games would go if they took the voice chat away and forced the teams to only communicate via chat and pings. I guarantee you it wouldn't go nearly as smooth.

I will also let it be known that I have joined other peoples/teammates calls and met other people over them. Making my history with voice chat being very positive and noticeably improving my performance and team performance in-game.

Not everyone out there is going to be a nice person, but I find that chatting with people vocally decreases toxicity compared to typing (This is just in my experience) because people tend to be less reluctant to be toxic if they feel as if they're actually talking to a person on the other side of the screen instead of a character using a keyboard.

Just my 2¢.

considering the fact there are so many right now, what would be the point? we have Skpye, TeamSpeak, Raidcall, Curse, probably a lot more people use, they are probably better than anything Riot can work with, so i think its best to just use what we already have instead of trying to get something on the client to work!

Curse, skype, etc... There are options. Most people play solo queue because they don't want to have to deal with listening to people complain. It's pretty simple.

Listen to the trinity voice podcast on this. They talk to one of the heads of riots about it this very topic.

I'm gonna refer you to a youtube video and let you decide why there is still no voice chat in LoL.

Lol you guys. I really don't get the point. If someone just flame on you, simply mute the damn person or disable voice chat and live your life. If we keep avoid doing things that would improve if used right, but get scared because of the bad use, we will never get somewhere. -_-

Unfair advantage to those who have a mic? please, stop.

Just to be clear: I am talking about a in-game voice chat that almost everygame has today but we're still living in 2000s, texting. I am not talking about a premade party who will definitely use skype or so, but on soloqueue or normals. Why do I have to invite random person to my TS server or add someone on Skype JUST to play one match? It makes no sense. The game should offer it by defaut.

The same way people can be completely jerks on voice chats, they can be even worse texting. How many games did you lost because someone was "busy" flaming eachother on chat and always get off guard?

It is a simple thing: Do you not like voice chat because you're afraid of trolls? Disable the content. Do you like it? Use it. Everyone wins.
