I can see that people are rather split on wether Rumble's actually good or not in this preseason. On one hand, he still has his qualities that make him strong, incredibly high AoE damage, very good slowing abillities, still is a good lane bully (his levels 1-3 are still terrible but the level 4 powerspike is a reasonable compensation), can get behind in lane and still do well with a good usage of his ultimate...
It's all nice and dandy, but there's one condition to it, you have to be a dedicated Rumble to appreciate those qualities and make good use of them, he's one of the most difficult champions out there (suck it
), his abillities do have some specific conditions to get the most out of them (enemies standing in your damaging zones, staying above 50% heat, calling fights in choke points, playing with a specific team comp), and he's rather item reliant, but after you get your core items
, you're pretty much good to go and any other item is a situational/luxury item. But then 5.16 happened, not only did juggernauts started to run rampant, but also Rumble got nerfed for pretty much no reason other than LC$, and now that would be so horrible, since juggernauts did get nerfed... if not 5.22 (you know, those class updates have been pretty tough for this little guy), but this time things got a bit more rough, aside from the overall adc extravaganza (which thankfully died out rather quickly) there was the ap items cost increase that's been talked about to death yadayadayada, even the rift herald and the rise of ad fighters/splitpushers/MUNDO kind of pushed him out viabillity in the top lane since these are the things that are quite hard for him do deal with (and the rift herald buff is not so great on him), and then there's also the overall rise of early game based meta where games are pretty much decided by 9th minute mark, which is not enough time for Rumble to get going and start wrecking people, the biggest hit however was the masteries overhaul, on top of 5% cdr not being so easily obtainable, making heat management fairly clunky, masteries went from being a moderate early stat boost, to "who can abuse certain keystones the most?" I can already tell you that Rumble isn't one of those. The only actually good keystone on him is Deathfire Touch... which got nerfed shortly after its release because
, other ferocity keystones are just not a viable option for Rumble, so are cunning ones (Thunderlord's is debateable, but I still think that it's just not worth it) and the resolve ones also don't really fit into any of Rumble's playstyles.
Playing this little fella right now is a choice, not a choice like "Do I want to eat a croissant or a baguette for breakfast", it's more like a "Do I want to get a job right away after I finish college, or do I want to continue my studies, get a higher degree and then look for some other opportunities", it's a choice that you need to dedicate to, that is, if you care about the whole competetive/winning aspect, Rumble's still a very fun champion to play, if you look for something more towards this direction. But if you enjoy seeing the enemy big bad red rock which serves no purpose other than just spinning around in one place and do jack shit, I'd reccomend you to wait a little bit for the upcoming mage update, and then see which of those champions will suit you best (that is if Rumble hopefully doesn't get ignored like he always does
)
tl;dr
Guinsoo is still overpowered.
Honestly, I have yet to find a Meta or anything where Rumble sucks. He is always an incredible lane bully with a kick ass ultimate for team fights. Not to mention his damage is insane no matter what state he is in if you stay in the Danger Zone.
He's doing worse than he's ever done at any point in the past and seeing virtually no pro play or casual play, so I'd advise you against Rumble. He's not terrible, but he's definitely not faring well in the preseason so far.
I'm a rumble main that only plays Rumble whenever I rank or play serious so I'll tell you this: This is the first time I'm considering leaving this game because of how the game has affected him and the unwise balance choices for other champions, how the game's run now, etc. I'm not angry but just disappointed.
