RiotChun, On Those Mordekaiser Changes
Pretty self-explanatory. There was a huge backlash on the round of changes you proposed here, and Chun I just want to point out that you handled the community critique well, and you seemingly have gone back to the drawing board which is what I believe dedicated Morde mains were hoping for.
Here's how I think you could've handled it better. You posted the discussion on Thursday evening, and you responded to a few posts and then disappeared. You responded to a Summoner (we're still called this... not sure why but that's neither here nor there) and attempted to explain away some of his trepidation. You neither really engaged in dialogue beyond explaining your reasoning/intentions, nor did you mention anything when the changes got pulled from PBE. You dropped the thread on a Thursday, and Tuesday (after no real conversation) the changes got pulled.
We need some context, some back and forth, some ideation. The whole point of trying to engage a community, and trying to get them spitting ideas out at the onset of some major kit reworking (look at Xerath) is so that you don't estrange the playerbase who are dedicated champion mains. You work with them, as they are honestly the best sources of data for the champion you're trying to make significant adjustments on, and you use what knowledge they have to help guide your ideas.
This isn't to say that we want balance by committee. God no, nobody in their right mind would think that's healthy for the game, but if you were to make some changes to Morgana, I would hope that you'd be asking Morgana mains who have been playing since S1-S2 what their thoughts are before even tossing a kit onto PBE.
At the end of the day, I think it was the right call to pull the Morde changes (for the most part) and try and start from scratch. What you did was not only mature, but exemplary of how designers should be making big changes to champions, by listening. That's only part of it though! And we need you to communicate with us, especially going forward, what the plan is because communication has to go both ways for either side to feel like the conversation is accomplishing anything.
