If you can lose LP during a promo series, why can't you gain over 100?

why does winning the first match of your promo mean nothing if you lose the next two? Please make it so you can go over 100 LP and if you happen to end up with 100 or more lp after failing your promo you start a new one.

Because in addition to still learning how to make their video game after seven years of development, they still don't know how to accurately make a ranking system for a non-team team game.

Because Rito hates you

But in all seriousness, you DO 'gain' that LP. Winning that game boosts your MMR which means you'll gain more LP for a normal win. It feels like shyt, but it does work.

I would prefer if they just got rid of promo series in all but advancing full ranks

I was actually thinking about this the other day because if you win your first promotion game and lose your next two, you'll be at LEAST two games away from reaching promotion again; whereas if you lose, win, lose, you will potentially be only one game away from reaching promotion again.

I understand the mathematical reasoning to this (i learned how to add/subtract when i was four yrs old) but logically it makes no sense. Basically, all our first win in promotions means is that we have a game to lose; which would be great if it impacted the conditions of our third game win or lose. Unfortunately that's not the case and we actually get punished harder for consecutively losing our next two games than we do get rewarded for consecutively winning (we enter the next division/tier at 0 LP even if we go undefeated in our promotion series). This is why we see gold 1 players with higher mmr than plat 5 players (the same example can be made of any two adjacent tiers).

I understand that climbing isn't supposed to be easy, but neither should be demoting; and losing 40-50 LP during what's supposed to be our opportunity to promote leaves us 3-4 losses away from demoting. It shouldn't be possible for us to go from promotion to demotion in 2-3 hours unless it's possible to go from 0 LP in one division to the next division in just as much time.

How could you actually gain more than 100 LP? During a promotion, you start at 100. By definition, you need to lose more games than you win n order to lose a promotion series (2:1 or 3:2, depending on which type of promotion). Surely you should, logically, end up with less LP than where you started if you lost more games than you won?

Durzaka5/18/2015, 6:21:45 AM2 votes

Because they don't want you having back to back promos.

How hard is that to understand?

Winning a game during your promos shouldnt contribute to earning your next series of promos.

MMR has alot to do with your game match ups, LP is basically the only way to rank up regardless of MMR but whether or not you have been on a hot streak or a losing streak will decide how you are placed in matches and ranked after promos. Upping the LP value would throw their ranking system off greatly, if you have the "proper" MMR is should only take winning 6 games to reach 100 LP on a streak.

Think of it this way, 1-10 games compared to 1-200 games, the MMR has to adjust depending on your game play [win/loss] and if you happen to have a higher MMR than whatever teir you may be in. you will receive a higher LP per game.

Hope i helped in some way.

part of the idea, is to simulate playing in a high level tournament: if you lose in a tournament, then that's it, you're out. You don't just go into another series to try for second place again.

The win in your promotion series does not count for nothing.

If you have 90 LP and you win and gain 20 LP you get 110 LP and a promotion starts. If you win one game (+20 LP) and you lose two games (-40 LP) you are going to be back at 90 LP. If you lost all your promotion games then you will be at 70 LP.

This is a very simple example and I know there is a case where they can cheat you some LP, but it does not completely waste that win in your promotion.

Example of it cheating you LP

If you hap 99 LP and you won a game gaining 22 LP and getting into a promotion series, you then win one game (+22 LP) and lose two (-36 LP) then you would have 107 LP after losing your promotion series. In which case I believe the system cheats you 8 LP and puts you at 99 again. But that is only 8 LP. If you lost both promotion matches you would be at 85 LP.

I think it does go over 100 LP. If you go 1 win first in promos you'll be ~120 LPish, so when you go 1-1 you'll still be at 100 points

At least I think

Miku Lv995/18/2015, 7:50:04 AM1 votes

It would make sense that you should be able to get over 100. You could be at 99, win a game to get into a series and then lose your next game, and be all the way down to like 79 or something, even your your mmr could still be the same as when you were at 99.

But really, it doesn't matter since LP doesn't do anything. It's all about your mmr which changes normally even during a series.

Worst Mid Ever5/18/2015, 8:49:50 AM1 votes

it does mean something

say your mmr gives or takes 20lp, winning a promo game will put you at 120, then losing 2 more will put you at 80, so you need to win 1 more to get back to 100lp and back to where you started

also if you lose your 2 first promos it will put you at 60lp, which means you need to win another 2 games to get back to where you where, you are 2 wins 2 losses in both cases so there is no missing lp

if you're going 1-2 in promos and getting sent back down to 20lp or something your MMR is probably really low, its better to just calculate your progress by how many more games you have won than lost, or ignore the whole system all together and just try to win more games?

First time I entered Promos I thought that my LP would be suspended til the were over. I thought it was a special event like a test. Ha Ha. Jokes on me. Stop asking logical questions and drink the cool-aid.

Its been my experience that the people who complain the most about the ranking system are the people who have are finding it very hard to rank up, and in order to preserve their pathetic little pride blame the ranked system instead of their own inability.

The truth hurts, sorry

Simplicate5/18/2015, 5:29:37 PM1 votes

The ranking system is fine as is. Though personally I think you should only lose like 25 LP if you fail the promo series.

Terchio5/18/2015, 7:13:40 PM1 votes

It's logical, but it will never be implemented. The ranking system is based on playing a ton, but not so much on whether you are actually better. It's basically this Champion Mastery system as well... You win a generally low percent of your games, you can still master your champion. Likewise, you can climb the ladder with a poor win percentage, as high ranks are based on high grind, not much else. I think they refuse to actually show your true MMR because they feel it leaves low incentive to grind past a certain point, whereas if the ranking is based on grinding, only the most loyal of players will rank high, though not necessarily the best ones.

The fact is that LP has no relationship to MMR. And MMR is only thing used in matchmaking. Even Riot understood something is wrong when Silver 4 players get frequently matched with bronze 2s or bronze 1s.

LP is just Riot attempt to deceive players they removed MMR system. They did not. They hid it. And the current system is made with logic: if it ain't broken, break it. In the beginning you got into 50 LP when you succeeded qualifiers. FOr unknown reason, Riot did not like it, thus they removed it, and made you start 0 LP. ALso losing a game at 0 LP drops you down. This made me think RIot did not like it you did not fall down in the ranking en masse like they wanted. Then they made 10 games immunity to remove the problem of winning qualifiers and immediately losing and dropping back to previous division.

The loss of LP is important thing: it makes LP lost more you play as LP you gain during promos is lost, but LP you lose hwen you are at 0 LP is counted and you are dropped to 100 - your LP tally when you drop division. I do really wonder why they could not make it work other direction too ? When you win your initial LP would be your LP tally - 100. And give you 3 or 10 games immunity on losses WHEN you are at 0 LP (and this immunity should not removed if you are above 0 LP).

I think your mmr and Lp should be based on YOUR performance, not whether your team lost or not. I have so many games where I do great but the rest of my team is either meh or feeds the enemy team and I can't carry them as a support generally so I get punished

creeperwariorr2/29/2016, 10:02:05 PM1 votes

How are you taking 100 LP I have to lose 100%

slipstreem5/18/2015, 4:43:10 AM1 votes

when I go 0-2 I am normally at 75ish LP and when I go 1-2 I am usually closer to 90 LP... so it does seem to give you some credit for going 1-2.

Well, it's because Riot doesn't know how to do addition and subtraction. Duh*[slayer-pantheon-thumbs]*
