Evelynn needs a rework

Note for lazy people: if you don't want to read the reasons why I believe Evelynn needs a rework, you can still read my 2nd post which shows how she could be reworked.

Hello, I've been playing Evelynn for a while now, I love this champion but over time I could see many thing wrong on this champion's design that makes playing her really frustrating. I really believe that she needs a rework and I will give some rework ideas at the end of this post. (Don't debate on values because they are indicative and obviously need to be balanced).

  1. Evelynn is made to punish enemy's bad move, to force enemies to be very careful because she can be potentially everywhere (if you don't have sigh on her, meaning that warding her jungle camps helps a lot). Howether, she is a very bad duellist and being a jungler gives her an xp disadvantage on solo laners. In the end, most solo laners don't care about evelynn and can actually do some very aggressive moves (like staying on their lane midlife and pushing or proxying) because they either: have enough damage to 100-0 her before she has done anything to them, have a strong enough escape/hard cc to get away from her or they are too tanky so they can just walk back to their turret. What should be her main strength(pressuring enemy team) doesn't work on most solo laners. Her fragility and her low base damage makes her one of the easiest jungler to get a double kill on when she is ganking.

  2. Her skillset is designed for teamfights whereas her gameplay totally hates teamfight. Teamfighting and fair fights are the worst thing that can happen when you are playing Evelynn: all her gameplay is based on taking advantage of your stealth to catch enemies one by one or to surprise enemies by your presence. The best counter to evelynn is to actually group and force a fight because she needs to set up her actions, to flank enemy team to reach important targets, she cannot just go in. In teamfight, it's way harder to reach carries and going in mostly means that you get focused and killed because you neither have a decent burst to kill a target and get away fast, neither have a decent dps and tankiness to stay long enough in the fight to kill carries. Howether, her Q deals AoE damage, her W's CD is reduced for each enemy hit by her Q, her ult gives her a shield based on the number of enemies hit. Her spells give her tools for situations that she doesn't want to happen and are never enough. If you can hit 5 enemies with your ult, you die anyway because you are focused by 5 people.

  3. Her skillset is kinda boring and she doesn't have much outplay potential, that's all about numbers, once you have engaged a fight, there is nothing else to do than hopping that you have enough damage to kill, enough ms to chase. Okay maybe the only thing is to think about is to keep your W to remove slows.

  4. Her E and R don't fit with her gameplay. Her E gives an AS boost whereas you mostly play her AP meaning that it's totally useless because her attacks deal almost no damage.

Her ult, because it shields based on the number of enemies hit and deals damages based on the target current's health whereas her gameplay is very opportunistic and your goal isn't to catch full life Sion, Leona and Sejuani warding their jungle but to punish squishy targets when they are out of position. As her only CC and defensive skill she needs it very often but it has 150s CD, meaning the same as Amumu's/Nocturne'ult... If you want to outplay your enemy and shield yourself at the last moment, your ult deals 0 damage. If you want to keep your slow for when your target uses his escape, your ult deals 0 damage.

I understand that nobody wants Evelynn coming out from stealth and one shooting them like Rengar but giving damage based on her target's current health totally ruins her gameplay. That's why I believe that her skillset needs to be updated to enforce her strength: catching and chasing enemies out of position, giving her tools for that kind of situations instead of the patchwork that she actually is.

Here are changes that I suggest: New mechanic: Hate. Evelynn can stack hate against enemy champions and monsters, hate interacts with her abilities. Each hate stack last 5s and hate can be stacked up to 6 times. When you have maximum hate you can still stack hate, refreshing the duration.

Passive: Same Q: Added: Generate 1 stack of Hate against enemy champions or monsters hit and 2 if they are moving.

W: New Passive: When you generate max hate against an enemy, you move 30-50% faster for 2s and your next basic attack within 5s increases your attack speed by 60-120% for 3s.Cannot trigger more than once every 8s. (doesn’t reset anymore).

Active: Added: If a slow has been removed, your next basic attack within 5s generates 1 stack of hate.

E: Total damage reduced to 50-160, bonus attack speed removed. Each hate stack increases its damage up to 90-280. Generates a 3s shield based on her hate against this enemy and increased by her target’s missing health. If a target on which she accumulated max hate against dies, this shield is refreshed. When an enemy dies she always gets maximum shield value (max hate+ 100% missing health on dead targets). This shield cannot be refreshed more than once every 8 seconds. Shield value: 30-100 base, 60-200 with max hate, 120-400 with max hate+100% missing health. R: Passive: Evelynn gets armor and magic penetration based on her target’s missing health. Rank 1: 1-20%, Rank 2:1-25%, Rank 3:1-30%

Active: Generate 2 hate stacks against all enemies in target area. For 8s, Evelynn’s basic attacks and spells deal 20/35/50 bonus magic damage, increased by hate stacks on her targets up to 40/70/100.

With this rework, she loses tons of burst and her slow(that she can get thanks to Rylay or Iceborn) but gains dps, mobility, tankiness and duelling ability. Whoever you are: Renekton, Riven, Zed, Yasuo, Fizz, Leblanc or Malphite, you can't hope to fight Evelynn when you are staying midlife/low hp after you have killed your laner or forced him to back, she gets too tanky and deals too much damage when you are low life, your only hope is to run away, even if she has strong chasing tools and diving potential, her damage takes time to fully charge and you can still hard CC her.

As a Grand Master Evelynn player for 5 years.

I agree. Her current kit is utter garbage and has aged miserably. Ravage is especially bad.... it's (in my opinion) one of the worst skills in the game. Hate Spike is also really bad and buggy as fuck, so many times it will target a random enemy minion or monster instead of what I want it to hit , WHICH I AM CURRENTLY AUTOATTACKING.

Yeah, Evelynn needs a rework... and maybe larger breasts.

Howether, she is a very bad duellist

While that's technically true if you put her up against duelists (Jax/Fiora/etc.) she is still able to 1v1 anyone else pretty effectively. She destroys ADCs/APCs with ease and is able to defeat tanks (Eventually). Yes, she loses against all duelists, but she defeats everyone else. That's why she has stealth, to capitalize on a single enemy that she is superior to.... not to blindly engage on someone she knows is going to beat her.

  1. Her E and R don't fit with her gameplay.

Yes, Ravage is complete garbage.

Agony's Embrace is not. It is a great ultimate ... it works for both solo assassinations and team fights. The only problem I have with it is (Wait for it) its buggy as hell. Many times I have died after using my ultimate but died before I could get the shield. Call me crazy but my ultimate does damage and goes on cooldown, I should get the fucking shield, I shouldn't die because the shield "took too long", that should NOT happen.

And yet it happens fairly regularly....

  1. Her skillset is kinda boring and she doesn't have much outplay potential, that's all about numbers, once you have engaged a fight

While that is also true .... Evelynn's skill and "non boring" gameplay come from two things; Positioning and timing.

Her actual kit don't matter, what matters is that you know when to strike and where to be at any given time. THAT'S what makes the difference between a good Evelynn and a bad Evelynn.

Again all of that being said, I agree her kits needs a rework.
