Can we take a moment to talk about Urgot's E?
It's great and I love it.
His R got a ton of attention because of the kill effect, and that's cool. His Q is also getting a lot of attention because it's about as impactful as breaking wind in a twister (not to be confused with breaking wind while playing Twister). But nobody's pointed out how fucking great this E is as an ability. So I'm going to do that instead.
First of all, this thing has numerous applications in probably one of the most straight-forward abilities in the game. An escape, engage, crowd control, peeling device, wave clear, creature stunner, to-lane mobility - all in one. Even on top of that, it works in direct tandem with his kit, allowing Urgot to flip an enemy that may be trying to avoid his other Echoing Flames procs into unused legs.
And it's not just the fact that it does some CC or that it works as a dash, but how it works. See, the ability is set to always do what it'll do - grab, flip behind, time out stun. It's a displacement that isn't prone to messing up or bugging out or doing anything more or less different from one time to another like Vel'koz's E or Draven's E. This will always displace enemies directly behind Urgot if he hits the grab without any variation, and it's nice to have this consistency when you're trying to plan something out.
And while Urgot's old ult was great for putting enemies out of position, the amount of time taken and the sheer distance on top of the flexibility of the ability overall really just pales in comparison to his new E. Multiple times I have, on the fly, done things that most other champions couldn't do in order to save my team - I've been able to flip Fiddles that have ulted away from my teammates, grab a Taric while he was ulting and throw him away from his carry, even did it with a Wukong ult while knocked up because the charge is uninterruptible. And while that might sound like I'm saying it to point out a flaw in the design or some unnecessary power, this is actually fantastic due to how otherwise immobile Urgot is in a CC heavy environment - that means I can actually time my E of my own accord to keep myself positioned how I want to be in the face of a loss of control, and that means that I as an immobile champion have the power to maneuver defensively and reactively. In other words, Morgana snares me, but I can still make sure that I've escaped beforehand by using my E as it hits me. A Taric goes to stun me, but I can still charge and grab him to minimize the amount of time I'm helpless - I am still actually doing something while stunned. That's fucking awesome.
And on top of all that, it's not a skilless ability because it requires timing, knowledge, and the precision to know where to aim the ability because it's on a momentary delay. It also maintains Urgot's relative identity as "immobile" despite being a charge since this ability stops on walls. It's an ability that knew where to trim the fat on it and keep it functioning how it ought to.
Whenever I use this ability, I feel unstoppable. Like even when a Vayne throws her E on me, I can still charge forward and grab her just in time to negate that shit. Nami ults to catch me out, but I can put that distance between us by E'ing away. Lux wants to snare me to keep me from catching her, but fuck that I'm still making it through to catch her. Draven throws out his E because he thinks he can solo me - joke's on him, I charged as he threw it out and I'm still catching him. Like, what would shut down or stop other tanks and bruisers in their tracks, I instead get to be that inescapable terror. Even if Urgot's immobile, by god they will be afraid if they're within my E range.
I fucking adore this ability.
