It feels like the new standard yellow trinket isn't as good as the old upgraded trinket.

To my understanding from the patch notes, we now apparently start with the "upgraded yellow" in that it holds 2 charges. The cooldown on the trinket scales with level.

I know that a lot of factors go into this, such as the fact that games are now MUCH shorter than they used to be, but I can't help but feel like I only ever have 1 ward on my trinket than 2 in situations mid-game pre-5.22 where I'd have 2 to plant down, and personally I hate feeling like you can I can only rely on 1 far-off vision ward and 1 yellow now.

I don't know what the cooldown on the upgraded-trinket was before 5.22, but was it intended to make the yellow trinket worse/nerfed since vision wards are cheaper now?

The cut the ward spawn rate in half at best. And it takes all game just to reach half of what the old trinket was. They also reduced the duration by 33%, and it takes all game to get up to that 2/3's duration.

I really don't like the change to the yellow stealth trinket.

At level 18 it's 1/3 the warding power of what the old upgraded trinket gave you at level 9, which basically means the ability of a non-sightstone non-trackers knife champion to contribute to the vision game just got crippled, even ignoring the removal of green wards.

Since wards are stonger when used in conjunction with other wards, you play a lot less of a role in vision now. Any ward use your team cobbles together will be diluted by having different people making different decisions with them.

This is why you're also pushed to buy pinks..?

It is better but it's worse. You have to be more conservative with them now, as you don't get them as often, but you get to store charges.

I agree, you can't even teleport to the upgraded blue trinket. Terrible

It isn't, and that's good. The old upgraded warding totem was brokenly OP.
