Jax

Is jax still played competitively in S5 since i never ever ever see him in any game at all, but everytime i play him in vs ai intermediate top to brush off some rust i find his kit to be absolutely effective. Even 1v2 as ai tends to in matchmaking. I read some guides that vouch building him extremely tanky with triforce as his core and then dead mans plate, steraks and hydra for some reason (and sometimes botrk) but those items are all quite expensive and its not unthinkable youll never get more than 3 or 4 items in a game. I can see how late as an offtank duelist he can be devastating since his burst is through the roof.

Any thoughts?

I kinda would like to make him my top main for soloq. (if i manage to force myself to play that)

Jax is a powerful pick, so long as he's able to get a kill faster than his opponent(s). He's especially powerful regardless in the lategame, when he gets two or three full items.

Jax is perfectly viable atm and is even a strong pick if you know how to play him.

Except for sustain, Jax has all the tools he needs to beat every opponent he can face in top lane if you play him RIGHT : high base stats, high base damages and scaling, low CD on all his skills, hybrid damages, gap closer etc.

Jax's early game is weak only because he is gated by his mana (even in early game Jax has already big damages) and the fact that he has to commit himself in early game to last-hit.

But you can perfectly play around his weaknesses by using the ward trick (upgrading your yellow trinket as soon as you can is really really helpful), by knowing how to freeze a lane / create slow push etc.

Even Gnar and Olaf (they are far more deadly to Jax than Renekton imo) are manageable if you know that. I'm not saying that doing all of the above is easy, in fact, it is quite hard and it will require to play Jax A LOT and until then, you will have several very painful games. But Jax has quite a big learning curve despite being "straightforward".

Hell, even Fiora is perfectly manageable until very very lategame.

Also, he has insane follow-up in case of ganks, even in early game, thanks to his high sticking power and stun. Ganking a Jax is never a bad option.

PS : Jax rapes Darius hard. The MU is the opposite of what it was before the rework. Jax's Q is super fast, making it easy to dodge the full damages of Decimate. Darius also has no longer an AS debuff, his own base AS is now also bad. All of this, combined with the fact that Jax's E fully dodge Darius' W and AA, makes the MU super hard for Darius. New Darius has big trouble to stack his passive against Jax. And without his passive, he is an easy kill for Jax.

Jax : Imagine if I had a real weapon?

Rammus : (Using Taunt) Real weapon wouldn't help.

and yes jax is devastating, and he's an amazing split pusher.

Hes good the main issue and reason you dont see him is he loses to all the top lane juggernauts as well as Fiora, Gnar, and Renekton, who are basically all the top lane power picks right now so... yeah thats why you dont see him. When more nerfs happen he may come back.

Jax is outclassed in every way by Riven and Fiora and juggernauts

With the New Sated Devourer, I enjoy playing him as a Jungler. (and Sated Junglers are hardly seen in LCS.)

He's may not be the greatest DPS for a Sated Jungler. But I feel his E and ult make him a bit more Durable. Also Because his E counters Auto attacks, I like using him Against other Sated Junglers.

This in mind, I usually skip Tri force in my Jungle build. (by the time you have Devourer, you pretty much miss the mid game power spike it would give you.) Also because I need the spell vamp to transition between camp and gank.
