Ornn's Awful Passive

You guys are completely getting Ornn's items wrong, and that is unarguable. Look for just a moment at the Zhonya's item buff. 1000g, and it's a PASSIVE, so it should at least be gold efficient, right? But no -- 30 bonus ap is 650g of ap, because 435g = 20 ap. 15 armor is about 250g, because 300g = 18 armor. That means you want me to literally spend 1000g for 900g of effects.

That's one thing that is dragging Ornn's winrate down, and is also why I am very glad that you made it such that you cannot buy Ornn's upgraded items before level 13. Way too often do I see that people will build Molten Edge first item on an ad carry without actually realizing that spending 1000g towards shiv or berserker's greaves is far more efficient that spending 1000g towards a full damage item before building any other item.

I understand that they're supposed to be a late game item to give people that extra edge once they're 6 items, but is this really how it should be done? At the very least, in my opinion, it should at least be a valid question to ask "Hey, should I build this before I'm done with every single other item in my inventory". Because most of the upgrades are really crappy. They're barely efficient. Look at the 55 ap on the Deathcrown upgrade.... The 30 ad on a Molten Edge upgrade... etc. etc. 60 ap = 1250 gold, so 55 ap is barely efficient for 1000g. 40 ad = 1300g, so 30 ad from molten edge is actually LESS efficient than simply buying a bf sword.

As you can see, some of the items are not only COMPELTELY INEFFICIENT, but players in my diamond ranked matches are building the upgrades before they're full build, sacrificing other items that are more efficient. Like, even if Molten had 40 ad for 1000g, you still wouldn't build it before you got shiv, pd, or rfc, because no matter how much ad you have, if your attack speed, critical strike, movement speed, and defenses are too low for it to matter, then it's still not helpful to build.

I perfectly understand that my complaint is about the people around me's SKILL LEVEL and understanding of the game / math, which won't always be that high, but that's not really it ----

I feel that instead of simply giving people more base stats, it should be some sort of passive.

Like, Zhonya's Hourglass cooldown reduced by 20 seconds, or sunfire cape might deal more damage to the people around them, or maybe the defensive items get a cinderhulk-like %hp passive, or Molten Edge gives you 270% crit damage instead of 250%... This is my most important point... Ornn should be the masterwork blacksmith that you should want to get the items not because they're made of slightly thicker steel so they weigh more and you can whack people harder with them, but they actually offer some kind of choice, or maybe even do something cool.

As the centerpiece for Ornn and his identity, does anyone in this forum really believe that gold inefficient base-stat increases to items we all already build is the most intriguing and fun passive in the game, or does it feel like just another design letdown?

Upgrade the passives / actives / provide newer passives or actives for the items, or possibly even provide an entirely new set of 4 to 10 items that can ONLY be built PERIOD with Ornn. Anything other than base stat increases that just come off as if it took five minutes to come up with his passive.

Ornn is a champion that cant be balanced. I called it out before.

He will either be useless or busted, because giving your team access to items the enemy team cant have is gamebreaking. It means lategame, the enemy teams 6 Item build is stronger than your teams can EVER be!

The reason its inefficient is as you stated, its supposed to be the smallest edge when it comes to end game builds. If it was efficient people would build them early.

And to my knowledge they actually tested actives and passive increases. But as it turned out they were WAY too strong, so they just went with base stats.

This is my guess but to make Ornns not near MANDATORY as if someone wants IE, if they can increase the amount of Crit damage even more Ornn would be god-tier. But if they just increase base stats, Ornn becomes less mandatory, and you can get the stats from other sources instead of actives/passives through ONLY Ornn.

I agree with this, Ornn's upgrades largely feel like trap choices, and only really become worth picking if you have nothing else to spend gold on, which at the current pace of games, essentially never happens. I also fully agree that paying gold for more stats on a select few items is just about the most boring way to implement the theme of a forge god, and I'd like to see the current upgraded items scrapped in favor of more interesting purchaseable effects. Gangplank, for example, can purchase upgrades to his ult that really do affect its gameplay, and I think Ornn here could achieve something similar by having players purchase an item on the side that would grant some unique interaction relating to him.

One item, for example, could let Ornn collide with the wielder using his E to knock up nearby enemies as if they were terrain, which would work really well with fellow front liners, or even back liners who may like more peel. Another item could let the wielder detonate Brittle with their own autoattacks, which could help champions low on innate CC to synergize better with him. These are but a few examples of unique gameplay effects that would be completely unique to Ornn, and that would make sense when combined specifically with him, as they would rely on his own kit and foster new interactions with it. They wouldn't even need to take up a slot or anything, so long as they're just items Ornn can craft for them: not only would this look a lot more interesting than just a few bonus stats, it would also feel more fun in practice, as it would be power with actual gameplay. Ornn's interaction with items is one aspect of his kit I think could do with a rework, in spite of him being released so recently, as I think it's sorely missing the mark on all fronts.

and thats about the only time i would do it
