Why was there a Master tier player in my mid-gold elo game? (pic inside)
In my experience its the pros and high-elo players who have the most issues with League's matchmaking, but I got a major slap in the face by it today.
In this game, all of our lanes won early. Top and mid solo-killed, then our mid and jg got us 4 kills against their botlane and the turret. It was going to be a stomp, until their Twitch starting roaming all over the place picking up freebies with his stealth, and eventually got so fed he was able to kill everyone in a teamfight within 5 seconds. His positioning and kiting were on point as to avoid our divers, and he never got picked off (unlike the rest of his team).
I _was _cool with losing, as great games from individuals like that do happen. He was definitely a good player. But when I looked up his profile to see what rank he was, I was furious. I'm a mid-gold level player, as was the average skill of the players in this game. The game had a low plat, some low golds, one high plat, and a silver. But the Twitch who single-handedly won their team the game? He was freaking Master tier.
Why in the world was a Master player put in this game? I doubt that his MMR is vastly different from his rank, considering how disproportional his performance was to the other 9 players in the game. Riot wants every game to be a 50/50 shot of going either way, but when you put a master tier player with golds, we absolutely do not have a 50% chance of winning. I'm fine with getting outplayed by someone who happened to be better in that particular game, but it feels awful knowing that because the skill level was so unbalanced, we were likely going to get outplayed no matter what.
