Can we have a disable skins option?

So, there are a handful of skins in the game that cause lag on my PC that is above minimum system requirements for League, even at the lowest visual settings. The fact that a skin leads to an advantage feels intrinsically unfair. It's one thing to lose a fight cause your opponent is better than you, but when you lose because your opponent spent money on a skin that strains the graphics card on your pc, it feels beyond bad. To be clear, I HAVE NO PROBLEM WITH SKINS IN GENERAL. I actually really like the idea. I just wish they would not change the playing field in one players favor.

The 2 skins that I have had this issue with recently are Void Bringer Illaoi and Wildfire Zyra.

Would it be possible to add an option so players can opt out of seeing skins in game? Like a player just sees the baseline version of a champion without all the extra effects, but not modifying anyone else's game.

EDIT: Alternatively, I would be happy with making it so skins don't increase the the graphics, and cpu demands placed on a pc.

The thing is, it's not the other player's fault that YOUR computer can't handle the skins.

I don't know how they would do it though. From loading screen to end game skins are loaded in as the champion themselves rather than costumes on the champion model like in DOTA.

What bothers me is how do certain skins affect your PC but not high particle champions in general such as Aurelion Sol, or Ekko?.

Void Bringer Illaoi I'm almost postive is exactly the same as regular illaoi but different colors. I don't see how the graphic card would react to just that.

One issue I see with disabling skins option is interactive skins where an event will trigger, but because its disabled it may crash client side (joke interactions, item purchase interactions, game interactions like DJ sona's music, etc)

I'm on board for it to happen though.

Skins are were the money comes from for Riot. Other than victorious skins it is not something earned in game. It is something people pay for. The point of a skin is cosmetics, you buy it to be seen by others. A disable skin option is unfair to people supporting the game. A better option (and probably easyer) would be for Riot to take a look at optimizing demanding skins.

My Intel HD 3000, yes that's right an on bored GPU handles the skins perfectly fine

They probably wouldn't allow that since people probably spent money on the skin, and a lot of people want it to be seen.

This is an easy business decision of NO. Riot wants to support the widest base of players they can. The player's computer specs are most likely in a bell curve. They'll be some super powered PCs playing at hundreds of frames a second maxed out. The mass majority of computers from the last 5 years or so will run fine. Then you start getting down to the toasters that are 7 year old laptops with integrated graphics which is likely a small population and are unlikely to spend money on skins. It makes more financial sense for them to not invest their developers into such a unprofitable feature and make more Teemo skins. Moral of the story, if you're running a toaster, you're an unlikely source of income for them and you're not what businesses like to cater to.

They'll never do this. People will be hellacious.

I agree. Even though I don't have fps problems , for most of the people it can cause an issue , so , why not ?

one of the reasons people buy skins in game is too look cool to other players, I feel like Riot would think that if you could disable skins it would affect their skins sales. Also how bad is your comp lol? mine is 5 years old and only cost me $500 bucks and it runs league on highest graphics 60fps

have you tried turning down the graphic setting in game so you arent maxing out the capabilities of your graphics card?

Jonxx9/4/2016, 5:29:04 AM2 votes

Yeah, I agree that possibility of disabling seeing skins would be pretty nice.

Doesn't the "remove eye candy" button hide them?

If not then it should.

Blanchimont9/4/2016, 3:31:12 PM2 votes

I think someone who makes custom skins needs to make a program to do exactly this. It should go through all the files and replace them with the base skin of the champion.

BobIII9/4/2016, 5:00:58 PM2 votes

This option should at least exist for ranked. If certain skins are banned from tournaments, how come they're allowed to exist in our competitive ladder?

I have a decent computer (well above the minimum and recomended specs) and whenever Mordekaiser is played in my games when hes on my screen the same thing occurs, i lose FPS. Only thing in the game that causes me to horribly lag, numerous tickets were pointless because apparently Riot thinks its my PC.

So i'm all for this option if I can disable Mordekaiser who gives me a similar experience to yours.

I got an idea that might work for you -- Custom skins are skins that are only visible to you, and are permitted. You could have the base skin set to be the model and visuals for any skin on that champion. I think that might work, if it's the just those skins it shouldn't be too hard to figure out.

Just out of curiosity, what graphics card are you using? Because I've used everything from 6 year old integrated cards that run the game on medium-low with no issues.

Wow, you must have a potato as a computer. Regardless, good suggestion.

Here's the thing. A person paid for that skin so they could play with it and show it off against other players such as yourself. If your PC can't handle the game then perhaps its time for you to save up and get some new hardware rather than penalizing a player who is spending money on the game.

Boo hoo. Get a better computer.

A few years ago I used to play on a 32 bit duo core vista with 3 gigs or ram and a nvidia gtx 210 and Wildfire Zyra did cause peculiar stuttering.
