But I so want to play that again.
I remember all of those and more. I remember when Poppy didn't tell jokes, I remember when Yorick was so toxic and unbalanceable that he wasn't allowed to be part of the free rotation. I remember when Graves had a shotgun that used little pellets for auto attacks. I remember when Ashe's slows on her autos was a toggled ability. I remember when Garen used to do front flips during his Q. I remember when Nasus had a voice like silk that could turn legs to butter. I remember and miss all of these things
yes a time before keystones ruining everything, support items being insanely broken an overpowered and the few champions that was busted as fuck was easy to ban out. now you have so much shit thats busted you almost lose the game at champ selection if they get picked by someone who can play them even remotely well. when the game wasnt decided by whoever had the better jungler and dragon was just extra gold that could be made up with good plays an picking up kills an didnt give stupid broken buffs that are gamebreaking if you dont secure the dragon. and baron buffed minions didnt take out your entire base. and if someone tower dived you lvl 3 they died and didnt walk away with a kill after taking 5 tower shots + your combo.
Ah the good ol' days. When the games lasted 40 minutes on average and you could play practically anything with any build and do fine.
The good ol' days with Gankplank's hearty laugh and his stat stick E, the heimerdinger missiles that locked on nearby enemies.
Meh, I played back then, I'm enjoying the way the game is panning out.
When I get old, I want to be that guy who comments on how things were.
If things get worse, I want to be able to say how good things use to be.
If things get better, I want to be able to say how easy kids have it these days.
I miss being new to the game and building Trinity Force on every single champion because it was the most expensive item.
The thing I miss the most was how the game was played. Back when I started playing every other youtuber had shit like "5 support comp!" and my personal favorite "Breaking the Meta" by the mighty Solwolf. Soraka + Alistar bot lane. Yi mid. Random AP scalings on AD champs! AD Malphite! AP Tristana! Xin Xiao was a man, and Skarner missed his kind. The lore was more campy but also somehow, more interesting. Garen is spinning on Teemo in top lane because I summoned him and made him. We existed in the lore back then... alongside Swain's chessmaster-style takeover of Noxus, the Ionia war and Blitzcrank's dating service. Fun, goofy shit... but good shit. I'm sure when they do the revamped noxus lore it'll be over-dark edgelord bullshit without any soul or humor.
These days I'm not even mad about the meta being so freaking stagnant... I'm mad that there's such a strict meta at all. I'm mad that EVERYONE has a dash and % damage. I'm mad that picking something but the 3 meta-approved champs for your role will likely get you flamed into the ground. Every video now is "So-and-so champ/item/strat is BROKEN!". Every game feels insanely toxic and every player has a hair-trigger. Every game feels like a complete stomp, and a single player's contribution to the game is far, FAR less meaningful than it was.
Some of this is nostalgia, most certainly... But man... I'd have rather the game updated it's graphics without changing it's mechanics. I had fun back then playing AD Malphite or Sona... or Jarvan/Xin Zhao bot. I didn't feel the need to /mute all at the start of every game because if I didn't the game would be more toxic than an all-for-one game of nothing but Singed. I looked FORWARD to new champs instead of dreading what overloaded, overpowered trash with terrible lore they were gonna throw at us. The game didn't take itself so fuckin' seriously and neither did the players. I would rather play a million games as Surprise Party Fiddlesticks and lol at hurling balloon doggies at people than suffer through a single one using the new Riven, Yas and Kayn skins. Over-serious edgy shit without a shred of humor or self-awareness about how over-serious edgelord it all is.
I'm just ranting now, so I'm through. I guess the TL: DR would be "I agree". Let's go with that.

Riot seems like they'd be interested in trying a temporary game mode that's a revert patch, tho given how slow they are it may be 5 years before we can play it.
At least we have new gags, like Sion screaming cowards while running away with ult, Sej W turning her spine into spaghetti, and we still have shenanigans like Blitz's magic hand and Morde's pizza feet. IMO League still has charm, its just a little harder to see under all the layers of new shit.
i miss when league wasn't so damn competitive all the time, a more innocent time when you were allowed to try to have fun in solo ranked or solo norms

I only miss how new it all felt to me when I first joined. There have been moments that captured that feeling, like the Bilgewater event, and the when Jhin was announced so I spent a whole week basically studying his whole kit to the point of having just as much knowledge as the PBE players.
I miss Jax being able to 1v3.
I miss the days when draven had the same passive as darius
