Why did I lose to Sion as Tryndamere?

League of Legends Match History

To sum it up: I played Tryndamere ranked and loss to Sion. After this, I looked it up to see who should win in this match up, and all my sources say Tryndamere. I'm confused on how though, because I'm still new to Tryndamere. From my experience facing other champs with him, I can just walk them down while at full fury and kill them. (not literally, I bait and dodge their abilities of course, so don't say that's the reason I lost)

But with Sion, me at full fury AND conqueror up, I still did NO damage to him. Idk if its because his amount of health or what. And with every trade, I would lose. I'd take like 10% of his health, and he'd take 50% of mine. His shield and the damage he does with the shield was also countering me, but even when I didn't go in while it was on cooldown, I still did no damage.

So I figured I'm probably playing against him wrong, and need help with how to play against him correctly, so when/if I play him next time I know what to do.

Because you built no armour pen.

Despite what boards say, Trynda is countered by tanks until late-late game when he has Bork and armor pen item like Lord dominik or Black cleaver. Your best matchups are shit like Riven, Fiora, Yasuo and other light fighter/bruisers. It takes forever to kill a tank and because Trynda is squishy too, they deal decent damage to him.

Everybody expects Tryndamere to beat Sion, but he really doesn't. He's a "tank," sure, but he's technically an outlier from the role system. He's a couple stat points short of being an official juggernaut, and Riot has gone on record saying as much.

Tryndamere usually does best outfighting other toplane hypercarries early, because he has really good sustain and waveclear. He also guaranteed wins most trades by virtue of his Q and W.

Sion's entire kit counters Tryndamere's, unfortunately. There wasn't anything you could do early aside from just farming. The only way you could have won was by leaching the enemy jungle for gold and experience (putting the enemy jg behind) and controlling the map after lane phase ended.

Easy answer? He farmed and you didn't. By 40 min in he had a 6k gold lead on you and probably hit lv 16 while you were still 14.
