Ranked Champion Restriction
Hello. I'm a Gold IV 4-year veteran at LoL. I've been playing a lot recently, especially in ranked, in an attempt to improve at the game. I own that I make many mistakes that end up losing games, and I have many unlucky games where other teammates get dominated despite my giving an overall solid performance (in lane or whatever). I get that there is no real helping that; League is a team game. But at the risk of sounding like just another salty low-elo player (which is probably true regardless),** there is one thing I think should be examined within Ranked Solo Queue.**
I just got out of a rejected promos series. The first game was a slaughter. I was JG, and all three of my lanes lost despite my best efforts. Unlucky, and I could have played better too. Oh well. But the second game was a slaughter too. The top laner was solo-killed 5-7 times. She and the jungler also died in an early, failed invade. Bottom laners were 0-10 by 20 minutes. I get that too. Double unlucky. But: our support decided to play the new champion, Rakan. He had no keystone because he made a mastery page on the spot and forgot to save it. In other words, he had likely never played Rakan before**. Makes sense, Rakan's new. **But when I tried to shake it off and go on to the next game, lo and behold: another Rakan support. I'll admit that I dodged; I had absolutely no desire to lose a game in a competitive setting due to the likelihood that someone on my team was playing a champion they had never used before. In terms of Ranked Solo Queue, I feel like that is something that could MAYBE be alleviated a bit.
I understand restricting ranked champ select is a terrible idea. What I'm looking at is new champs, specifically.
**Is it at all possible or realistic to restrict brand-spanking-new champions from RANKED PLAY for, say, the first couple days they're out (similar to how you must be level 30 to begin playing ranked, and you unlock new gametypes as you rise in experience)? If people wanna spam them in Normals, or ARAM, or customs, or whatever else then I'm all for it. They're new, and interesting, and fun, and they should be playable on their release date.
To see new champions in ranked on the same day they've been made available to the general public, however, is frankly demoralizing.** Ranked queue should be for players who are serious about the game, and have experience on the champions/playstyles they intend to use. It's difficult to try and spend so much effort on something, only to see your progress reversed or muted because somebody picked the wrong place to try and learn something.
Sorry for the salt and/or clouded judgment. Just speaking my mind for the forum setting.
