Maybe LoL or gaming isn't for me after all....

Hi, I'm a new player of LoL and have been since the 4th of August of this year so about ten days. I had been told by a person about the game and decided to give it a try and eventually became hooked. I first picked Ashe and kinda favored her. Then I turned to Nidalee, then Fiora. Ashe Nidalee Fiora

Unfortunately, I haven't been enjoying myself. I've "sucked" many times, pretty much being my own bully. I made repeat mistakes, failed to bring justice to the champions and made a fool of myself. I'm only level 13 right now, and I'm not sure what I can do. I've tried all the roles and I'm bad at all of them. Bots are beating me and I can't see myself even attempting to face real life people because I know I'm a failure and won't be able to help my team when they need me, even if I tried my best.

I stayed up late in the night, reading guides, rules, the forums(old forums), and other tips and advice to somehow make myself believe, with the slight chance, that I'm actually worth something to the team I play on. I have to be able to play this game. I have to. If I don't, I'm back to my life again.

I'm not sure if this can be helped but, maybe I'm just not good at video games.

LoL can have a steep learning curve, but I'm sure you'll pick it up with a bit of practice. I suggest watching some high elo/pro streams on twitch. When you see a player doing really well in your matches, ask them for tips and see if they'll accept a friend request and play more matches with you, or ask for advice here on the boards.

Everybody sucks at first :P

I'd recommend sticking to bot games until level 20 to reduce stress from the community. Once you're level 20 you should buy tier 3 runes with your saved up IP and make an AD and AP rune page. Flat AD Quints and Marks, Flat Armor Seals and Scaling MR Glyphs for one, Flat AP Quints, Hybrid Penetration Marks, Flat Armor Seals and either Scaling MR Glyphs or flat AP Glyphs for the other. That'll cover most champions, not optimally but functionally.

If you are having trouble with bots, maybe see if you can get someone experienced to play with you and have them point out some of the mistakes you're making? A lot of times in bot games you have level 30 players or smurfs abusing the bot AI and it's difficult for new players to recognize why some things happen the way they do.

It can be really difficult to play the game with no experience and almost no help from masteries or runes. Don't stress too much over it, just try to focus on getting comfortable with the gameplay for now. If bots are killing you, focus more on not dying than killing them. Ashe is a really good champion to pick up for that, because she has great range and CC for kiting which is a skill that will be useful on practically every champion.

I remember when I was under level 20, I decided to try to play an Intermediate Bot game because I thought the Beginner Bots were becoming too easy. I proceeded to feed miserably against the Intermediate Bots to the point where my teammates told me to sit at base and not move so they could focus on winning the game. I was so embarrassed and ashamed, and I never wanted to play against real people because I couldn't even play against an Intermediate Bot.

Even when I first start playing against real people, I'd get so nervous about going into queue. I didn't regularly play norms until after I hit level 30.

Now I'm still nervous when I go to queue for ranked because I don't think I'm good enough, but my ranked anxiety is starting to tone down to more I get used to it.

It's a long process to get more comfortable with the game. I personally "quit" this game about three times, with about a six month break in between each "quitting." As you force yourself to play more, you'll get more used to it and you'll naturally get better to the point where you feel more confident in your ability to play. Some people are just naturals at the game and they're superior to the majority of players--but otherwise the majority of players are just average at the game, and that's OK. At the end of the day, the only thing that really matters is if you're having fun playing the game. If you're not having fun, then maybe there's no point in playing.

chances are you don't suck, you just picked a bad time to start playing.

right now the lvl 1-30 experience is probably the worst it has ever been.

DO NOT play PVP. as a new player your skill lvl is probably between bronze 4 and bronze 3

lvl 1-30 is filled with 80% high level smurfs. who are the top 5% of players in the game. they will be rude. they will be annoying.. they wont be helpful.

co-op vs AI in beginner and then intermediate

made sure to get the 1 IP t2 runes and ass a new one in every time you lvl your accont to a new lvl

look for guides on said champs.. make sure you use your masteries

the best way to play is to find a playing willing to help you learn. and have the que with you in bot game and talk via skype or some other voice chat but dont play pvp. and dont play ranked even when u reach lvl 30

find a champ you like.. get good at them.

if you can go 20 kills zero deaths in 20 min (or less) intermediate bot game you can try they champ in pvp

but keep in mind you WILL NOT face people your skill lvl in PVP.. you WILL NOT face other new players.

avoid mobafire.. those guides are troll.

LOLking is a good site

let me ask you this if i watched a pro player would i be as good as them? If i watched a guide on how to build an airplane would i be able to build the air plan as well as they did? If i watched someone juggle could in turn i juggle as well? No you can not just look at someone else play and gain skill you will be able to pick on tip and tricks and maybe focus on a certain thing you should be doing such as CSing but that does not mean you will be able to do it just like them it takes practice so dont just give up you have not played long just a week or so. Try to focus on one thing at a time to improve you are trying too hard to do it all at once and become good. Improvement takes time and will reward you on how much you put in.

Damn, you guys seem like you have a really rough start to this game. I had played vain glory before LoL so it was really easy- I went to PvP at level 5. Seems like time will fix your problems tho. Don't worry about winning so much, it ruins the fun

I can imagine starting to play LOL now can be difficult. When I started there were just over 40 champs so it was easier to learn them all and their skills and then new champs when they were introduced. If you start now there are like roughly 500 different skills to see for the first time in game and i can imagine it would be overwhelming at first.

If I were you I would start with learning one champ of each the following roles, AD carry, Support, Top. Try learning champs which have fewer skill shots and are not mechanically difficult to play. Ashe (since you have some experience with her) and Miss Fortune would be a good place to start with AD carries. Miss fortune makes last hitting minions extremely easy with her passive.

I am going to assume that one of the reasons you are having issues against bots is because you are having issues acquiring gold to get items and are getting harassed or killed in lane. Last hitting minions properly will likely help you tons. Try going into a custom game alone, pick a lane and try to get 100cs in 11 min. Focus getting that last auto attack on the minions before they die. You can make it more difficult by not buying items or using skills. Learning to do this will make it much easier when you face a laning opponent, making you less reliant on getting kills to afford items early. Even in losing your lane you can still keep up in gold with your opponent and making you relevant to your team as the game continues. Creating a lead over your opponent in CS and using the advantage that it creates to afford items before your opponent will allow you to push objectives with your team or by yourself.

Other than the above practice try watching some of the streamers on twitch and how they play the game and their thought process on decision making. I would recommend watching Valkrin, he is more mature and avoids the theatrics that some streamers have while explaining his decision making and why he is doing things as he plays. I think that it could be useful for someone like you.

Hope some of this is of use to you
