Climbed from B5 - Silver maining support
I just started playing at the tail end of last season. Went 7-3 (I think) in my promos this season, and I got placed in B5, 0 LP. I thought that was a little harsh, but it is what it is.
It took me 150 wins to get from B5 to S5. I think I had about 2 top games and 1-2 mid games, the rest were support. Here's a few things I learned:
-A lot of the people I played with played A LOT of different roles/champs. I started looking at my ADCs match history about halfway through my climb, and I was shocked to see that most of them hadn't played ADC in the last 5-7 matches, and that the champ they picked, they haven't played in the last 20. That's going to make it hard to climb.
-People love to chase kills. They LOVE it. Just got a 3 for 0 team fight? BETTER CHASE THE OTHER 2 ALL THE WAY TO THEIR NEXUS TURRETS.
-Teams (usually just yours) don't know what to do if they win a team fight. Just got an ace? Better head back to base to spend all that gold you just got. Forget objectives, I want to get items to make me stronger for the next team fight! (which I will immediately look for after they spawn again)
-Nobody knows when/if to do Baron (and to a lesser extent, Drake). Occasionally if the jungler has a successful gank bot lane, they'll ping to Drake, but not often. And NOBODY knows when to do Baron.
-People talk way too much in chat/all chat (especially when losing). So much time wasting telling us how bad we all are instead of trying to turn things around.
-Everybody is better at your role/champ than you are. Everybody is an expert, and they'll make sure you know how you're doing it wrong in the worst possible way/language.
-Don't main support. If your ADC does well, it's because they are amazing, not you, and if your ADC does poorly, it is 100% your fault "noob support".
Anyway, I'm still in elo hell, but I'm happy with my progress. Don't be shy using that mute button. It'll do wonders.
