I had one of the best games of my life last night [Master Elo]

Mostly writing this for myself and teammates to remember, but might be a slight inspiration to someone.

Master solo queue game. I was Zyra support against a Swain Thresh botlane. My Draven kept shoving the lane in their turret (not the way to play this matchup), he would get hooked by either swain or thresh, and we'd both die to that and/or Xin Zhao ganks. TL;DR we were like 1/8 in 7 minutes. Draven then proceeds call me and the team all sorts of names, then disconnects and never comes back.

Meanwhile our 0/5 Jayce was also having a hard time against the fed Xin and TF, but he never flamed. At that point the team's chat was basically "aw man :( this was winnable". Then, our Yorick tells me: "Zyra, farm, you're our apc now".

We were losing hard and had a dc'ed Draven. But Yorick or Ivern instead of blaming the team and say "go next" didn't say a bad word and believed the 0/5 Zyra could do something. This encouraged me a lot, and even if we'd lose, I was just looking forward to play that game with a team with that attitude.

The enemies were like "Open? Can we just push?" but we were on the same page mentally and no one wanted to leave. The combination of us trying our best and them perhaps being overconfident (as every team will be when it's 20-6, 5v4 and you have 2 of their inhibs down, all drakes, and Baron) made us stop their push.

From that point, the game just turned really fun. Defending base, waveclearing, constant jokes. And at 36 minutes, we ended up winning after killing them at Baron. I went from 0/5 to 18/9 and the realization that this feeling is the best a game can offer. Not LP, not a border, not KDA and not your rank. If your happiness depends on your LP, you're going to tilt, be miserable, possibly toxic, and definitely climb less. And it's always going to be hard not to do this. I didn't gain LP yesterday, lost 3, won 1, but I didn't need to play anymore after that, and instead just felt like I had got more from League than winning 20 games.

I was so happy I even forgot to report the Draven = )

Thanks team <3

Isn't it wonderful what happens when you simply don't flame your team?

I'll never understand what idiots hope to accomplish by fighting their own team instead of the opponents.

I'm happy you turned lemons into lemonade. Better mental wins!

Those are always the best games, where it's about fun instead of winning.

I remember one game I was really fucking tilted, 5 game loss streak with trolls and afks then we were in a 3v5 at the end and someone teased me and I kind of snapped.

Then I made a dumb typo and just started laughing like crazy and started joking around with everyone and got 7 new friends at the end of the game.

Congrats, man!

The 4v5 wins are always amazing. Nice to see that it does still happen at high-tier as well as low-tier. :D

I don't know how to reply.

First of all: Gratz on an awesome carry in Masters. You did earn it, and I really don't want to belittle that. Don't let me!

Second: I'm guessing you're a lot younger than me with how you write; I can definitely empathize with how you feel about toxicity.

However, I think your opinion is rooted in your age a bit. Yes. Leaving teammates and ragers who have nothing constructive to say are generally bad for win rates/team performances.

But I want to stress: A lot of players take candor WAY TOO SERIOUSLY in this game: I'm often called Toxic purely because I do point out what people are doing wrong, and usually in a blunt "you did this" way. I know people don't like it. But, it's often the most succinct way to say something or steer a team back to trying to win. Sure, they want to report me, but it gets them thinking, "I AM building wrong." "I am taking far too many risks." "I want to prove him wrong."

Maybe 1 in 15 of games where I get "toxic" does being so affect my performance. Maybe 3 in 15 does it make my teammates grief and troll because they no longer care. But, about 6 in 15 actually try harder, safer, and smarter to win.

People really grasp on to those 4 games where performance was negatively affected by criticism though. They remember those. They don't really remember wins. Win = just another win. Loss = That guy was toxic and our loss was all his fault.

In other words, I think as time goes on, and one grows thicker skin, criticism actually does create better results. It doesn't feel good at the time, but it does win more games, as long as it's readily received.

But, we're embracing a community statute that thinks it's bad, and fosters this feeling that "feel good" will always create better results. I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels that way. (I do think if you're territorial, people should back off after you state that intention, but it's a good world skill to learn to take criticism. Bosses don't use positive reinforcement or a light touch when you do something wrong. Peer groups don't either. They assert their authority).

You definitely made the right call to keep playing (I never surrender and never stop trying).

Is it just cuz the Yorick play style is so chill that Yorick mains are untiltable? I notice whenever I'm playing him I'm so relaxed and chill.

Could have been any ADC, and instead...

I love, LOVE when my teammates have a good attitude. I try to extend that to others. It's totally possible I'd have accepted a surrender in that situation, but just having fun is such a good way to play. It's way more fulfilling that being obsessed with winning.

Also, nice name, just bought that on Dreamcast~

yep, i had a similar experience a few weeks ago. I was in promos to plat 3, and my top (i think), afkd. I was playing brand mid and was absolutely wrecking mid. Usually i'd be tilted af, but me and my team were so chill...that game, i got my first penta kill on brand, a champ ive played since s3. I went like 22-2 and hard carried the game. First 4v5 game i won since like season 4 or 5 (I think).

I LOVE seeing posts like these. No matter how shit the game gets, or how often I feel like quitting, THESE moments are why I keep playing this game.

League is a game with very low lows, but very high highs. And its so easy to forget the latter.

For every game we were frustrate and wanted to ff at 15, we have had a game where we got super fed and had the time of our lives.

Thank you for makin this post. The boards need more positivity, and you my good sir just helped make my day with a smile.

I had one of those games two days ago. I was nami support. We were 0 vs 11 in the first 10 mins of the game. Their mid, top and jungler were far way ahead. My adc Vayne started panicking and they all pretty much lost hope in the first 10 mins. Urgot and I kept calmly saying farm it up and try play safe, we have a better late game. And in the 15.00 mins mark Vayne got her first double kill. Although they secured 3 drakes and opened our inhibitor, we all kept focused and collective. No one said anything negative in the game. Even the yasou on our team was doing poorly, none of us tried blaming him or blame each other. We all just wanted to win. It was one of the most enjoyable things in the world. That intense feeling of trying your best and not losing hope. We won because we didn't try blaming anyone. We tried to all farm and ward alot. We tried our best and we succeeded because we chose to put our frustration aside and focused on the game.

While its a cute story and something many players in lower elos should remember (4v5 combacks are definitely possible in low elo) it's pretty sad for this region as a whole.

That at a "master" tier level, a team with a 5v4 lead is incapable of using their numbers advantage to win the game. I guess NA really is the 4fun region.

Dude do you know how many of those kinds of games you have to lose before you win one? I've played well over 5000 games since season 5 on multiple accounts and I can only recall winning like 3 or 4 4v5s and I recalling winning no 4v5 where we were behind. Those 4v5s we won, we were massively ahead before it became a 4v5.

Of the many vices I have in my life, gambling was never one so you can imagine I would rather move on than stress myself on gamble that has such an extremely low chance of paying off. I absolutely hate games like the one you described and if I were in that game, it would have been 3v5 because I wasn't sticking around for that shit. It's nice that you guys won. Well done. But all it means is that you guys were supremely lucky.

Is this a good time to acknowledge how much damage Zyra does?

5050BS6/18/2019, 3:16:43 AM1 votes

Too bad its a 1/1000 game (because of the afker) else 1/100

For every one of these, you will have 99 toxic piles of trash games one side or the other and you wont climb.

If the best night of your life was playing a video game... you need to get out more.
