Understanding Riots philosophy on how they balance champions.

A lot of people these days ask "Why can a champion have so much of THIS and THIS?". To use an example; "Why can super mobile champions have base movespeed?" Well to answer that question you need to know how Riot balances.

Riot likes to emphasize strengths and weakness's. This 1: Makes the champions a bit more unique (They'll each fill their own niche) and 2: Is gives clear defined weakness's you can exploit. If not you end up with generalist's, who are not per say bad designs, they're just more difficult to balance. Example being champions like Lee Sin or Ahri.

An example of clearly defined strengths and weakness's would be like Annie; She has Incredibly high base burst thats basically point and click, but she lacks any decent range for a Mage, forcing her to get right up front in fights. Putting herself at huge risk ; She gains huge rewards when she can land those 5 man tibber stun ults that decimate teams.

Thats how Riot balances; So before you ask why can a champion have so much of one thing, realize that is how Riot balance and I would assume always balances. And I generally agree with this type of balance.

(I probably could have went more in depth but I'm a terrible writer)
