PSA: Golden rule for playing various champions
So i got a little butthurt the other day, and my original forum post was deleted. Let me seek redemption in a new post:
this is a loose "guide" for playing league. It doesn't mean you should follow this like the bible, but it should give you a good estimate of when you are ready for each game mode for each champion you own:
If you are playing a brand new champions, clueless of their skillset, please play in the Coop mode. nobody really cares what you do in Coop, since most players are competent enough to solo carry a bots game, and so you will be able to try out whatever champion you have in mind without getting flamed. Coop is also a good place to try out non-meta item builds in action, although i suggest the practice tool for that due to the immense reduction in cooldowns and 10k gold on demand.
once you are familiar with the champion's kit, you should seek to play them in normal blind (if you're playing high demand champions such as yasuo or riven) or normal draft (you'll get your preferred role more often than not). Bots are nothing more than blocks of spaghetti code, so actual human interaction will reveal shortcomings and strengths of whichever champion you are playing (eg. while starting dark seal in a bots game is great, actual people aren't as easy to kill and stack on)
Once you've played about a dozen games with said champion is a good time to take your skills to ranked if you so choose to. This does 3 things:
- it's an anti flame barrier of sorts. team is much less likely to flame you if they see you've been playing bard mid with decent success in norms than you just picking him mid out of the blue.
- it gives you knowledge of what you are in for exactly. you had experience with that champion before, so although you may not be a dirty one trick pony like me, you should be able to at least grasp the amount of damage you dish out/can take
- If for whatever reason, you find great success with this champion and you shoot up idk 2 tiers, you are most likely going to get suspected for being boosted. this not only is frowned upon by the league community as a whole, but may also lead to a permanent suspension of your league account.
