When to realize a champ is dying

Well, if you have eyes to read you should know of who i am talking about, my best champion, the kinkou masterShen . I never complained about Shen because he has been a reliable pick in every season and when it got reworked i was so much happy but now i realized he is slowly (not as slow as i would) dying. There is a couple of reason:

1)Kit: He is a tank, a lategame peeling tank but you are not allowed to build tank. Let me explain, Shen's only way to damage minions is Auto/Q and you need all 3 autos to kill 1 MELEE minion, this force you to go with an early item 3077 that gives nothing to shen or you will not be able to push one single wave unless the enemy team dc for 5 minutes. (imo this item is just garbage nowitem 3751)

2)Stats: Shen early stats are weak compared to other champs Darius Darius Darius Darius , that's because you have a big shield that will scale very well lategame (same issue with Maokai imo, even if is a big heal) but as i said and as you can see on the various sites on internet, you ain't gonna build full tank, the best build is now item 3078 item 3748 not because they are good with shen's kit, just becuase they are good on every single champ in the game. so in result you are a tank with low base stats that is not even gonna build defense stats until 25 minutes.

  1. Lack of damage: ok it sounds weird because "tanks should not do tons of damage"( they don't agree with youGaren Sion ), but this champ after reaching 15 mins just loses all his damage, im not gonna lie, early levels your Q deals a lot of damage, but after a while it just does not damage, it scales with %health as magic damage and you build ad, so basically is better to use ad even tho shen gains nothing from it just because is better than rely on his own kit.

For this reason they dragged shen botlane as a support, and it's not so bad even if is a full damage meta, but god sake, he is a toplane tank, not a fighter and not a support, I used to one trick this champ playing something like 200 games with it or more every season but now, in season 8, is one of the less played champs by me.

Also, another little issue, an assassin lategame can have 67 lethality (with the runes) and maybe even a item 3036 while fighters will have Conqueror so.... well have fun [vlad-salute]

Edit: I know with shen you should carry by Protecting people, splitpushing ecc.. but remember im in p1 elo, people are stupid and i can't carry anymore by protecting a 2/14 twitch, that's why i switched to Vladimir :(

Comparing stats to Darius is kind of dumb since he is literally the guy with the best base stats in the entire game.

Sunfire damage got reverted to it's earlier "Sunfire + IBG on everything" meta state. So Sunfire is just as good as back then for wave clearing.

Also item 3748 item 3078 work very well with Shens kit. Titanic allows for splitpushing which is very good with Shen, it also allows you to auto reset to get your Q damage off faster.

Trinity works well if you ignore the mana (which doesn't keep Garen from buying it either, also didn't keep Morde from buying it back in the day). You spam your Q a lot which procs Trinity and the added AS helps with the Q hits too.

The CDR is also very helpful

The REAL problem is the true damage inflation done by 900 IQ Riot. Instead of bringing back FoB (stubborn Riot) they introduces conqueror because that is just the best solution out there to deal with bruiser problems right? Then they were too stupid to fix the ADC problems by reworking the entire crit mechanic that worked perfectly fine for 7 years but all of a sudden it's the most unhealthy thing the game had ever seen according to Riot (PS: you just had to nerf ADCs)

Now it has one of the most unhealty items the game has ever seen because the rework was an utter trash failure but Riot is too full of themselfes to admit that so of course and we are reworking crit again by next season (but not revert it since that would be admitting to a mistake)

Remove the true damage inflation then you can look at tanks individually. Also you need to remove afterschock with it since that keystone was the reason why the true damage inflation started in the first place.

IMO just replace Conq and Afterschock with FoB and CotC

But that would mean Riot did a mistake and Riot never does mistakes in their eyes.

Edit: Also Garen isn't a tank

Shen will not and can not be allowed to be any strong as long as Stand United is kept in current shape.

There was a chance for meaningful changes during his update, but as soon as rumors of update started, Shen mains started screaming "map awareness" out of the top of their lungs to make sure Riot kept it in it's inherently toxic, uninteractive and anti-fun form.

Shen is my main and while the dumb damage meta hurts him a bit, hes still ok. it sounds like youre using a terrible build on him and maybe like you think hes used for a different role in the game? AD shen makes no sense at all

Shen is primarily a Support Tank. he excels at applying pressure and surviving while forcing the enemy to focus him or die. He CAN slaughter people, but only after you get him tanky. and by doing this he keeps teamates who do more damage alive. think about it this way... how could he be anything but a support when his ult only works on another allied champion? much like Galeo his role on the team is to bodyguard your soft friends

try building something slong the lines of Warmogs, Spirit visage, Titanic Hydra, sunfire cape, frozen mallet, and boots of choice. Deaths dance or dead mans plate can be decent on him in some games too when youre ulting in to save a friend and getting 3 kills you'll feel better

I don't know why people always call Garen a tank. Literally all he offers to a team is damage. Him and Sion are entirely different champs.

As people have already mentioned Garen is not a tank. Shen's problem is they gutted everything but the reason pro's abuse him, which didnt work (who would've guessed) and now he sucks. The only way to make shen good will be to do something like what they are doing with sejuani reducing her reliability with E duration and range nerf's and compensating with damage and passive buffs (as well as previously weakening her ult substantially).

try guardian -> sunfire->item 3190 ->item 3174

The only viable shen build I've found. You can no longer play shen top. You can't even farm Ranged minions with Q empowered under tower unless you go full damage and if you do you get raped in lane.

Shen at this point of the game is a worse pick than Voli top. if you like shen try trundle top, At least you have some fighting power and actual split push threat with him

Yo used to main shen too but that was back in season 7 when i could carry, but I stop maining him in s8 bc couldnt carry dogshit teams.

Triforce is just a better bersion of item 3091 on shen now. Gives all stats he needs...except mana.
