What does the word "Tank" mean in this game?

If a so called "tank" who is indeed very hard to kill and does the same, if not MORE, damage than an ADC then I believe the word "tank" does not mean what Riot thinks it means. A tank should never compete with a pure damage dealer in terms of damage. Just as the damage dealer should not compete with the tank in terms of taking damage. There is this overlap where a tank in this game can do both and I don't think that should be the case.

First, Vayne was bad. Second if you let Nasus farm you deserve this. Third Nasus is a juggernaut and he built 2 offensive items in that game.

Your team had an auto-attack centric comp who bought no lifesteal or MR and he bought thornmail. That factors in to his damage too and is probably part of why 1/3 of his damage output to champions was magic. He wasn't damaging you, you were doing the damage to yourself.

The power of understanding counter-building is important.

EDIT: also vayne's overall damage output increases in games played against tanks and there was only one for her to hit so her raw damage output is lower because of that.

Thats a nasus. He's more of a juggernaut then a tank. Idk tho, maybe Vayne just had a bad game

thing is nasus isnt even a tank. tanks are the things that are shat on by everyone cause they are supposed to soak the damage which they cant do without items and by time they get items to soak damage its too late cause the enemy first builds penetration items cause the have penetration on top of great for a penetration item stats or just ok stats or an item with double the damage as your resistance item and with skills that scale with damage more readily available than skills that build scale with tank stats. cough Lifesteal* cough* but thats another can of worms

There's two forms of the word tank that are applicable here.

The first is the role Tank. This role is characterized as using defense and utility to control the battlefield.

The second is the form that refers to a character with defensive stats. They simply have to have high defenses to fit this definition. Some characters are naturally better at it than others, but when built correctly any champion can fit this form of the word.

Neither form of the word touches on damage dealt. You're looking at Tank from the perspective of damage, and that point of view is inherently flawed. The role Tank is often balanced around low damage/high utility, but it is not a requirement, and Nasus does not fit that role in any case.

Damage dealers and tanks are supposed to overlap, because the traits that make them what they are are not mutually exclusive. If you really want to talk about how things overlap there are other aspects of a character you have to add in, like damage type and mobility, otherwise you're not looking at the whole picture. If it wasn't 6am for me I might be able to explain this a little better, but hopefully you understand.

Nasus is a bruiser not a tank.

His measly single target slow is nothing compared to the aoe hard ccs that real tanks have.

besides the fact that nasus is a juggernaut and when i see this i bet he had like 1k stacks on his q but yea tank meta op

Pandemic Punch1/17/2016, 4:16:28 PM1 votes

This is just how Nasus works. If you don't slow down his stacks, he will be the biggest threat later. Also, he has nearly 100 more cs than the ADC and damage to CHAMPIONS is very subjective. It in no way indicates that they deal more DPS. In that game, Vayne will clearly deal more DPS but she didn't for reasons unknown to us. Is it because of the poke heavy lane that oppressed Vayne for the majority of the game or did the Vayne player just simply suck? Was Vayne needed in fights or was Vayne needed to make sure all waves were pushed and to take towers? Damage to champions should be something you ignore until you get a better understanding of the overall game.

That's a bruiser, someone between fighter & tank; flexible build between the two styles depending on the situation.

Nasus is in a special boat because of his infinite scaling q
