Hexdrinker almost completely nullifies AP mages/Assassians in lane. You need Armguard and ninja tabis to even come close to the shield/damage reduction of hex.

Sadly true.

Armguard can't compete with the power of Hexdrinker since it gives a powerful early shield and even a bigger shield when the Maw item is finished and is increased the more MR you have.

That's one of the reason why AD is superior to AP.

First item item 3155 = Win the lane easily. First item item 3191 = Suffer from mana problems.
