Playing with high ping: crunching the numbers.

(I'm posting this in the gameplay section because of the way ping effects gameplay.)

So I play with 100ms ping. After doing some math I now realize that I am totally unable to dodge any skillshots that will hit me if it takes less than 305ms to hit (200ms reaction time while playing + 100ms ping + 5ms to click button). If I don't dodge with flash but instead with a gap close like Corki valkarie, then it's about 335-345 ms (200ms reacion time + 100ms ping + 5ms to click + 30-40ms interruption window.

I did a bit of research, and at 550 range the majority of skillshots take less than that to hit. For example, blitz hook takes about 210ms to hit at 550 range once the hook leaves blitz. I measured ahri charm and it's also 210ms at 550 range as well. So in order to dodge this I would need to not only improve my reaction time, but also improve my ping, which I hope is not out of my control.

I reached gold 4, and if I'm laning vs. someone who uses a lot of skill shots (aka ahri, blitz) then it's inevitable that I will lose lane. The only way I will continue to play this game and work hard to improve my reaction time is if it's possible to lower my ping to at most 50.

After actually looking at the numbers, 50ms seems fair since improving my own reaction time by a full 125ms to dodge these skillshots is going to be impossible for any non-genius person (and therefore have a 75ms reaction time) although improving it by 75 ms (to have a 125ms reaction time) is possible with hard work.

In fact, now that I think about it, it's probably very unwise for anybody to try to climb the ladder as high as you can go if you have more than 50 ping since your potential will be so bottle-necked.

I live in a mountain community in Colorado where there is no such thing as really good internet. I do, however, have modest internet with about 5 megabyte download speed.

Is there anything I can do to get my ping to 50 or should I pack up and leave LoL for good?

Shit, I have 120 ping. I can dodge skillshots when I expect them, or it's medium or further range. Super annoying.

I play from Asia with around 300 ping, stable.

On a good day I can dodge most skillshots, but I suspect it's mostly because my opponents are mediocre as opposed to any effort on my part.

you live in the mountains, I live in the hills, at least you live somewhere that has internet...we get no dsl, no high speed, dialup is terrible, satellite is terrible, radio broadband is fairly terrible now too

can't even play this game or others now because i'm constantly disconnected, but latency has gone up everywhere
