What exactly slows down honor progression?

Currently, I am honor level 2. I overall and friendly in the majority of my games though like most people I do have a bad game occasionally. So what I'm wondering is why I am not yet Honor Level 3. A friend of mine recently got honor 4. I realize that I am doing something wrong, but I don't know exactly what i am doing that is stopping me from progressing. I know of a few things that I need to improve on, but what exactly is it that slows down honor progression? I play every game to win, I rarely AFK and when I do it is normally do to a connection issue. I have not gotten any sort of chat restriction, temporary or permanent suspension, nor even leaver buster since the system was released. If anyone has any info on how honor progression is calculated, please let me know. Thank you!
