What's The Deal With That? (support champions)

Gold V in the house here to ask players of all divisions, WTF IS GOING ON?

I'm not an avid support by any means, but sometimes you've got to play the role. I, myself, have a hard time comprehending between and actual support champion, and a, "kill lane." (Support Champion: Thresh, Leona, Braum; Kill Lane Support: Annie, Zyra, Morgana, Tahm Kench?)

The question I have towards kill lane support champions is, why in the world do you claim to be a "support" when you do more damage than the jungler/top laner? Is it because you didn't want to support so you'd rather just build a Sightstone and the rest AP/AD items? Is it because it works well with the adc's you're laning with? Or Is it because you just want a cheesy win against a lane such as Janna/Vayne?

Another question I have for the "less damage, higher durability support champions" (Thresh, Braum, Leona) is why are they so much stronger than you early game? (as far as pure damage and poke is concerned)

Is it because the more "tanky" champions need more time/gold to build their items up? is it because they legitimately outscale you? Or Is it because you simply don't have the damage necessary to trade against them?

I'm mainly concerned with the fact that someone can go Annie "support" and 1v1 the mid laner come 20 minutes.

So my question to the community is, Why are people claiming to be "support" when they build Sightstone, spooky ghosts then something like deathcap or zhonyas? Also, if you went mid, top, or jungle you can still build a sightstone and spooky ghosts, just an FYI.

So like....people like to win games. And have fun while doing it.

If a Yi Xin bot lane won me every game I could care less if they duo bot playing yi and xin. Why is it an issue with you?

Where is the rule written in stone that supports can't do damage?

To me the definition of a support is someone who goes bot and lets their ADC farm and tries to peel for their ADC, and give their ADC and other lanes kills. Thats it.

This post sounds to me like some kind of phony Donald Trump outrage "OMG what the heck is going on!" over something that really is not an issue at all.

Champions that Riot intended to be tanky or build as supports get high base damages so that they can be viable without building (usually) AP or damage.

LMAO. Are you bipolar? Why is this a concern to you? If you had a support that did 0 damage, and a support that did damage, which would you rather have on your team? Are you saying that BECAUSE a support does damage they are instantly bad for the team? Where is the problem here?

A sightstone, as well as the other factors i mentioned (not taking farm, igiving adc kills, peeling for the adc) defines a support.

Ever hear of voli support? They can do damage while building 0 damage items. Does that make theem a bad support? What kind of derky doo logic is it that causes you to lose bowel control when a support can do damage?

So like...this post is full of some kind of unspoken bias that if someone calls support, they must build mikaels, sightstone, zeke's, and some kind of crappy ohmwrecker or whatever.

What is your issue with a support getting a deathcap? Why is it a problem that supports do damage? If I lose a 2v2 because my support is outclassed by their support for whatever reason, then my support isnt doing their job. Once again I'm sort of not understanding the major issue you have here.

Main support here (really really low diamond, honestly probably high plat elo right now).

I tend to rotate around a few support champions, mainly Thresh, Leona, and Morgana. I tend to mainly go the same buildpath for each champion (utility and CDR for Thresh, CDR and Tank for Leona, CDR and AP damage for Morgana), but the builds may differ depending on how we are doing in lane, what the enemy champions are, and what my ADC's champion is.

To answer your main question, supports tend to go with their most comfortable build on each of their main champions. A majority of main support will rush for the sightstone on their first back. However, on some occasions, I will opt for the 2nd tier gold item and boots on the 1st back if bottom lane is winning hard, if they have a jungler who cannot clear drag on his own early game, and/or if I believe my ADC can survive on his own so I can roam.

There have been some games, where as Morgana or Karma, I will rush straight into more damage. This is because we are winning bot lane, our mid/top/jungle is behind or even (so we would need for damage output), or if the enemy team has 4/5 or 5/5 squishy champions.

On an ending note, your support (especially if they main it) has probably played a decent amount of games with his or her champion. They have a basic understanding of what they should do and what course of action to take.
