Ok Riot, let's talk about the past, present, and future state of Summoner's Rift...

See the problem is, even though the new map is "better" (that is just as subjective as those of us who like the old map, objectively both are better for different reasons), the old map had more nature, less stone, a more fantasy and dark feel to it, as well as a more intense feel. The new one is too bright, a lesser feeling of fantasy or wonder, more stone and less dirt and nature, and overall a less epic or urgent feel to it. The old map felt right at home, and at the same time I also feel like it was a little darker, and therefore made some situations feel more intense simply due to the dark lighting, colors, and shading. Overall the old one just was better, unless you like games that are just following a short-lived bandwagon that most games seem to follow today just because...

New, modern, and smoother textures aren't always better, it takes away some of what people fell in love with when the original product came out, a prime example of this is the outrage over the new looks of Windows 8 and 10 over Windows 7, people want the old one back, still do.

Even for people who are new to the game (never played on the old map), in my experience, look back at the old map and would still prefer it, because in most cases it just is better, and modern, new, smooth, and common bandwagons like that which are applied to games, don't hit on nostalgia in people, even new people who play the game, a modern look and feel won't ever bring out feelings of nostalgia, it will just be another game, nothing different, just the nicely advertised "Modern! New! Improved! Better Graphics!".

It is hard to come across classics these days, because games are becoming less and less unique due to this...

Riot, if your reading this, at least let the fans toggle stuff like this on and off, and please your long time players or even newer players who aren't pleased with the current product, while at the same time appealing to an average joe looking for a new flashy (but not so nostalgic) game.

The old map was ugly af. The new map is literally the best improvement Riot has made to this game in years. Props to the design team that made it, they did an amazing job. If you like playing games with terrible looking maps go play Dota.

Are you playing the same game as everyone else?

This is seriously a non-issue.

Toggle would be great but the new map looks pretty nice to me.

I just wish they would use the seasons more in the map.

the new map is better than the old one in pretty much every single way. You like the old map? great! It is objectively worst than the new one though. Sorry to say this but no, get rid of those rose tinted glasses. The old map was a mess, ugly and downright unpleasant to look at, at times. It also made no sense whatsoever about where it was supposed to be, it was just some random area in some foresty looking place that was kept very terrible looking despite being so important. I don't see how the old one had any feeling of wonder vs the new one, if anything the new one feels has a more fantasy look and sense of wonder than the old one.
