Comparison: Tahm Kench vs Braum: Is Tahm OP?
So as a support main, I've noticed that Tahm Kench seems strong, especially after hitting 6. To give points of comparison, I'll compare his utility, survivability, and his damage to a balanced support, Braum.
These two are comparable because both serve a similar niche- Tank supports who excel at protecting someone. Tahm's a single-target *NOPE * button, while Braum can block for his whole team- but overall similar concepts and niches.
vs
BASE STATS: Overall, Tahm Kench takes a small lead in stats, but they're comparable. 35-180 more hp, 2-10 less hp5, but mostly close or just 1-2 points difference between the two- an edge to Tahm Kench, but just barely.
Tahm Kench: +1 advantage
PASSIVE: Both are stacks. Tahm's has a bonus of only stacking to 3 and being persistent even when they're triggered, but Braum's has the bonus of being stacked by teammates and providing bonus damage while he can't recharge it. They both also interact with the champion's Q, allowing a stack to start at range.
+/- no advantage
Q: Tongue Lash vs. Winter's Bite
Cooldown/Cost: Both end at 6 seconds cooldown, but Braum's starts at 10 and loses 1s every rank. +1 Tahm. Tahm's is also on a strictly lower cost (50 vs 55-75). +1 Tahm.
Damage: Relatively equal: Tahm has 10 flat damage above Braum, but Braum's also scales with max hp, so he makes up the difference when he's got 400 hp. However, once Tahm hits 6 his is strictly better, since he gets a 4-8% hp ratio on Q, averaging more than double Braum's ratio. Tahm's also got an AP ratio on it, so he can build it towards damage if he wants. +1 Tahm (would be +2, but damage isn't a support's field.)
Utility: Equal on their respective slows early since Braum's decays while Tahm's is static, but Tahm outclasses Braum later when he ends up with a nondecaying 70% slow compared to Braum's decaying 70% slow. Both can be used to stun an enemy if they have 3 respective stacks, but Braum's will more likely be triggered before due to allied autos stacking/proccing. +1 Tahm
Overall Q difference: +4 Tahm. Total difference up to here: +5 Tahm.
NOTE: Here it gets a little messy since skills aren't directly comparable- I'll be comparing Tahm's W with Braum's E since those are the go-to defensive skills.
W/E: Devour vs. Unbreakable
Cooldown/Cost: Comparable- Braum goes from 18-10, while Tahm goes 14-10. Braum's costs significantly less, which helps vs the longer Cooldown. Combine with the idea that Tahm has multiple uses for Devour and we'll call this even.
Defense: Tahm gets to take damage instead of one ally with no bonus mitigation from this. Braum gets to take all projectiles he can grab with 30-40% damage reduction. +1 Braum.
Utility: Both get bonus movement speed using this as its defensive ability, so that's even. Tahm can use this to suppress a target for 1/2 duration, however- netting him +1.5 for one of the better CC's in the game in addition to his proccable stun.
Damage: Braum doesn't get any, but Tahm gets a large % max health damage, as well as hefty AoE damage. +1.5 Tahm.
Overall W/E difference: +2 Tahm Total difference til here: +7 Tahm
E/W: Thick Skin vs. Stand Behind Me
Cooldown/Cost: Braum has a strictly better CD (10-17%), but takes a little hit for mana cost later. +1 Braum
Defensive crunch: Braum gains +15-75ish% effective hp for the duration, and does the same for an ally. Tahm Kench has the chance to double his effective hp with proper shield timing. Tahm's lasts longer, but the effects wear off over the duration. Even since the utility of mobility also weighs towards Braum, tipping the scales to a +1 to Braum.
Sustain tho: However, Tahm Kench has the chance to shrug off 1/3 of all poke coming his way while this is on CD. +1 Tahm.
Overall E/W difference: +1 Braum Total difference til here: +6 Tahm
R: Abyssal Voyage vs. Glacial Fissure
This is a weird comparison, so it'll be less structured:
For one, it gives Braum a good if short AoE Knockup, a nice slow field, and lays down some ranged damage. 1pt KU, 1pt lasting slow, 0.5 pt damage.
On the other hand, Tahm gets to move a long distance rather quickly, bringing his slow and beefy self into the enemy team- with an ally. 2pt long-range quick movement, x2 for bringing any ally with for total 4pt. However, -1.5 for making a very obvious notice to the enemy team.
And both end up on even ground from actives. However, Tahm gains 4-8% of his max hp on-hit, all the time. On his Q this is already factored in, but it deserves a +1 for all autos here.
Overall ult difference: +1 Tahm
Grand total point difference: +7 Tahm Kench
So, is Tahm Kench overbalanced? Or maybe Braum's just underbalanced.
